What’s the role?

As the Senior Product Design Manager for Payments and Fulfillment, you will operate as a cross-functional partner and direct design manager across two critical foundations of the marketplace: Payments and Fulfillment. The design team across these two initiatives is small & mighty, though each initiative is very organizationally complex. There is also ample opportunity to influence our UX Foundations in both the Buyer and Seller experience. 

Payments and Fulfillment initiatives sit within our Marketplace Trust group, and this position will report into the Design Director for Marketplace Trust. Each of these initiatives operate across the two sides of Etsy’s marketplace, building for both buyer and seller experiences. Our Payments initiative covers things like partner integrations, ensuring sellers get paid, as well as the buyer-facing cart & checkout. Our Fulfillment initiative covers both the buyer and seller transaction & post transaction experience. Together, both of these spaces are major foundational products that underpin Etsy’s marketplace. 

This is a highly collaborative leadership role that will require close partnership with Product, Engineering, Research, Brand, and Design Systems. As the design leader across these two teams, you will be both a strategic product partner and the standard-bearer for impeccable design and execution. You will also be expected to pair effectively with other design leaders to ensure that we are delivering a consistent, “One Etsy” buyer experience while navigating feature-specific constraints in your specific area. The ideal candidate for this job should have excellent executive presence, and a history of successfully advocating for design excellence in seller tools or business tools.

For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. What does the day-to-day look like?

Etsy aspires to be the best place for creative entrepreneurs to build a business. The Marketplace Trust team builds the experiences that allow creative entrepreneurs to operate in a responsible way without needing to be business experts. The specific UX encompassed includes things like:

• Ensuring transactions can be easily made and managed

• Ensuring buyers and sellers have the most flexible and reliable payment experience

• Ensuring that sellers are getting paid

• Ensuring sellers have the tools to fulfill their orders

• Enabling sellers to manage issues with buyers or orders, if neededthis team works to bring simplicity and clarity to our users for incredibly complex topics, like tariffs, regulations, and policies. In that context, our product teams partner deeply with internal operational teams like customer support, legal, and policy. 

What does product design management look like at Etsy?

• Etsy is in a moment of transformation, and design is a crucial leader in that. Product Design Managers at Etsy are responsible for shaping strategy, vision, and execution in their respective product area. As a design manager you will also be responsible for elevating craft quality, developing design talent, and organizing your team to get the best outcomes. 

• Lead with Strategy - Work closely with Product, Engineering, and Research leadership to define and drive strategies, anticipating platform tradeoffs, technical constraints, and performance considerations while ensuring cohesive user experiences.

• Bring Clarity to Complexity - Navigate evolving architecture, regulations, responsive systems, and shifting priorities. Frame ambiguous problem spaces into clear opportunities grounded in user insights and business goals.

• Grow and Support Your Team - Coach designers through complex initiatives and platform dependencies. Develop a high-trust, inclusive environment with clear expectations around quality, accessibility, craft excellence, and performance-oriented design.

• Champion Craft & Systems Thinking - Partner with Brand and Design Systems to ensure components are accessible, performant, and scalable across the user’s lifecycle. Drive consistency while enabling innovation.

• Drive Measurable Impact -Use qualitative and quantitative insights to improve user clarity, confidence, and overall marketplace performance.

You are a thoughtful design leader who balances craft with strategy, clarity with adaptability, and vision with execution. You thrive in complex environments and are motivated by ensuring users have clear & simple interactions with otherwise complex features.

We’re looking for someone with:

• Experience leading design in an ecommerce or seller tooling space, from discovery to delivery

• Strong systems thinking and deep expertise unifying complex systems 

• Experience mentoring and developing designers, setting clear performance expectations, and supporting continuous growth

• Experience defining and managing org structures is a plus

• Excellent with communication and storytelling, with the ability to align senior stakeholders around vision, tradeoffs and roadmaps

• Experience managing multiple stakeholders across different teams Experience developing senior ICs and leveraging them as a direct partner.
