A Day in the Life

The person in this role will work from the Medtronic facility located in Mounds View, Minnesota.
The Global IT function enables Medtronic's global business strategy through technology leadership, digital transformation, and enterprise services. The Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) IT team plays a critical role in evaluating, planning, and executing technology activities associated with acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and strategic business transformations.
This role partners closely with Corporate Development, Finance, Legal, HR, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, Enterprise Applications, and business leaders worldwide to ensure successful technology outcomes during corporate transactions. The position operates in a highly collaborative global environment and may require limited international travel to support due diligence activities, integration planning workshops, and post-close execution initiatives.

The Senior Principal IT Technologist - Mergers & Acquisitions is a strategic technology leader responsible for leading GOSC (Global Operations & Supply Chain) IT due diligence, integration planning, and technology separation activities across complex M&A transactions. This role serves as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and transaction teams, providing technology insights that help shape investment decisions and maximize business value realization.

The individual will lead cross-functional teams through all phases of the transaction lifecycle from due diligence through integration execution, while ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity standards, operational objectives, and business goals. This role requires a strong combination of business acumen, technology expertise, program leadership, stakeholder management, and M&A experience.

  • Lead GOSC IT due diligence activities for acquisitions, divestitures, mergers, and strategic investments, assessing applications, infrastructure, cybersecurity posture, data architecture, IT operations, vendor contracts, and technology risks.
  • Develop and present technology findings, risk assessments, cost estimates, integration strategies, and separation recommendations to executive leadership and transaction stakeholders.
  • Define and lead comprehensive GOSC IT integration and separation roadmaps, including Day 1 readiness, TSA planning, transition execution, and long-term transformation activities.
  • Serve as the primary GOSC IT representative within cross-functional transaction teams, partnering with Corporate Development, Legal, Finance, HR, Quality, Regulatory, and business leadership.
  • Identify synergy opportunities, operational efficiencies, technology rationalization initiatives, and value creation opportunities associated with M&A transactions.
  • Lead cross-functional workstreams to execute complex system migrations, application consolidations, infrastructure integrations, and data transition activities.
  • Establish governance processes, milestones, risk mitigation plans, and executive reporting mechanisms for transaction-related technology programs.
  • Drive standardization and continuous improvement of M&A methodologies, playbooks, due diligence frameworks, and integration practices.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to Business Analysts, project managers, and transaction team members supporting M&A initiatives.
  • Influence enterprise technology strategy by identifying emerging risks, business capabilities, and opportunities resulting from acquired or divested businesses.

MUST HAVE (Minimum Qualifications)

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) and 12+ years of experience

OR

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of experience or advanced degree and 8+ years of experience
  • Experience leading enterprise-scale technology initiatives involving mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, integrations, or large-scale business transformations.
  • Experience conducting IT due diligence assessments and developing integration or separation strategies.
  • Experience working across enterprise applications, infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud technologies, data management, and vendor management disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical and business issues to executive stakeholders. 

NICE TO HAVE (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Previous Medtronic experience
  • 10+ years of experience supporting technology integration, transformation, or M&A initiatives within a multinational organization.
  • Experience partnering directly with Corporate Development, Finance, Legal, and executive leadership teams during transactions.
  • Knowledge of Transition Service Agreements (TSAs), carve-outs, Day 1 readiness planning, and post-merger integration methodologies.
  • Experience leading global programs involving multiple business functions and geographic regions.
  • Familiarity with enterprise platforms including SAP, MES, Microsoft technologies, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity frameworks, and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Relevant certifications such as PMP, ITIL, Change Management, or equivalent.
  • Experience within regulated industries such as healthcare, medical technology, life sciences, or manufacturing.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$148,800.00 - $223,200.00

 

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

 

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
