Is accountable for the risk evaluation and associated regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Portfolio Management: Accountable for and manages an assigned Not-For-Profit portfolio by monitoring financial performance trends, proactively defines client credit solutions, identifies emerging issues, and follows through for remediation. Responsible for risk rating integrity, annual reviews, financial statement spreading, compliance, and regulatory review. Manages amendments and waivers in the assigned portfolio. Is expected to be anticipatory, forward focused, independent, transparent, and collaborative in identification, communication, and all aspects of risk management.
  • Client Calling Effort: Expands client relationships through consistent and direct calling efforts with nonprofit executives, finance leaders, board representatives, development officers, and other key stakeholders. In conjunction with internal product partners, applies knowledge of credit policy, pricing, structure, nonprofit operations, liquidity needs, fundraising cycles, and mission-driven objectives to develop solutions that meet the client’s needs and the Bank’s risk acceptance criteria.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Partners closely with Relationship Managers and internal product specialists to ensure effective delivery of financing and banking solutions to nonprofit clients through a sector-specific lens. Maintains extensive knowledge of nonprofit accounting, fund accounting concepts, donor-restricted and unrestricted resources, philanthropic trends, grant and government funding dynamics, endowment and investment considerations, capital campaign financing, governance expectations, and market trends affecting mission-driven organizations. Understands and articulates sector trends, patterns in the economy, and implications for nonprofit credit risk, and proactively shares information across the Portfolio Management organization.
  • Deal Team Management: Expected to manage these tasks by utilizing assigned Associates and Analysts. Mentors and coaches junior Portfolio Managers, Associates, and Analysts on Not-For-Profit underwriting, portfolio management, financial statement analysis, risk identification, client communication, and deal structuring.

They author independent risk recommendations including, but not limited to, risk rating, compliance, underwriting, covenant structure, repayment capacity, liquidity adequacy, and nonprofit sector-specific risk considerations. The recommendation is finally approved by the ultimate risk approval officer.
  • Problem Complexity: Very complex. Senior Portfolio Managers will be assigned more complex names in the Not-for- Profit portfolio, including large institutions, organizations with affiliated entities, significant capital projects, donor-restricted funds, and endowment reliance entities.

Expected to mentor junior talent and line-of-business partners as appropriate, influence deal structure, support sound risk decisions, and communicate effectively with nonprofit leaders whose objectives may include both financial sustainability and mission impact.
  • Project or Program Management: Must be able to handle a large portfolio of complex Not-for-Profit clients while also taking a leadership role in activities outside of day-to-day portfolio responsibilities that benefit the Portfolio Management platform as a whole. This may include supporting process improvement, policy development, nonprofit sector training, portfolio reporting enhancements, and collaboration across credit delivery, risk, and relationship management teams.
