Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will help design, implement, integrate and support manufacturing technologies across Amgen’s global network of manufacturing sites.

You will work across manufacturing automation, information systems, data platforms and emerging technologies, collaborating with Architects, Engineers, Development Teams, Automation teams, Business Owners, Subject Matter Experts and other stakeholders to deliver secure, reliable and scalable solutions.

The successful candidate will bring a strong technical foundation, curiosity, and an interest in applying new technologies, including AI, to solve real manufacturing challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and support technology solutions used within manufacturing environments.
  • Work across manufacturing automation systems, manufacturing applications, data platforms and systems integrations.
  • Support integration between systems such as PLC/DCS/SCADA, MES, data historians, manufacturing applications, databases and enterprise/cloud platforms.
  • Understand manufacturing processes and translate operational and technical needs into practical technology solutions.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues spanning applications, infrastructure, automation, interfaces and data flows.
  • Collaborate with Automation, Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Cybersecurity and DTI teams to develop robust and supportable solutions.
  • Evaluate new technologies and identify opportunities to apply digital technologies, analytics and AI to manufacturing use cases.
  • Develop prototypes and proofs of concept to evaluate emerging technologies and demonstrate potential business value.
  • Support the implementation and expansion of technologies across Amgen’s global manufacturing network.
  • Ensure solutions align with Amgen architecture, cybersecurity, compliance and operational standards.
  • Develop appropriate technical documentation and support knowledge transfer to operations and support teams.
  • Identify technical risks and contribute to solution architecture, design decisions and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate effectively with geographically dispersed teams, including teams in the US and other international locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with technology in pharmaceutical, biotechnology or other regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with manufacturing systems such as MES, data historians, OEE, manufacturing intelligence or other shop-floor applications.
  • Experience integrating manufacturing systems using technologies such as OPC/OPC UA, APIs, databases, message brokers or other industrial and enterprise integration technologies.
  • Understanding of manufacturing data architectures and the movement of data from equipment and control systems through manufacturing and enterprise platforms.
  • Experience troubleshooting technical issues across multiple systems and technology layers.
  • Familiarity with databases and data platforms, including SQL and technologies such as Databricks.
  • Programming or scripting experience using technologies such as Python, PowerShell or similar would be advantageous.
  • Experience with cloud, on-premises and hybrid architectures, including AWS and/or Azure.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles within manufacturing or operational technology environments.
  • Experience in regulated/GxP environments and an understanding of computerized system lifecycle and compliance expectations.
  • Experience evaluating, prototyping or applying emerging technologies including AI, machine learning, advanced analytics or industrial IoT.
  • Demonstrated interest in continually learning new technologies and applying them to manufacturing problems.

Must-Have Skills

  • Experience with manufacturing automation and control systems such as PLC, DCS, SCADA or industrial control networks.
  • Strong technical problem-solving and troubleshooting capability.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing technology, automation systems, applications, data and system integration.
  • Ability to understand how multiple technology layers interact, from manufacturing equipment and control systems through applications, data platforms and enterprise systems.
  • Ability to work with technical SMEs across Automation, Engineering, Infrastructure, Applications, Data and Cybersecurity.
  • Ability to rapidly learn unfamiliar technologies and investigate complex technical problems.
  • Strong curiosity and ongoing interest in emerging technologies, particularly AI, advanced analytics and manufacturing digitalization.
  • Ability to translate manufacturing problems into clear technical requirements and potential solution approaches.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within global, cross-functional teams.

Good-to-Have Skills

  • Familiarity with generative AI, AI agents, machine learning or AI-enabled development tools.
  • Experience with one or more industrial automation platforms such as Rockwell, Siemens, Emerson DeltaV, B&R or similar.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication technologies and protocols.
  • Experience with OPC UA, MQTT, REST APIs or other integration technologies.
  • Experience with PI System or other industrial data historians.
  • Experience with MES platforms or integration between MES and process automation systems.
  • Experience with Databricks, SQL, Python or similar data and analytics technologies.
  • Exposure to containerization, Kubernetes or modern application architectures.
  • Experience developing proofs of concept or rapidly evaluating new technology.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
