Senior Manager, Governance, Controls & Resilience – Site Reliability Engineering

Role Purpose

The Senior Manager, Governance, Controls & Resilience will lead the governance, control assurance, operational risk and resilience framework for Site Reliability Engineering across Risk Intelligence.

The role will establish a consistent, auditable and risk-based operating rigor across SRE, while strengthening resilience assurance across critical services. This includes governance maturity, operational controls, service reviews, reporting, disaster recovery, business continuity, recovery readiness, capacity assurance and resilience evidence.

Working closely with SRE, Engineering, Product, Service Management, Architecture, Cyber Security, Risk and Audit teams, the role will help ensure Risk Intelligence services are not only well governed, but also operationally resilient, recoverable and ready to withstand disruption.
 

Key Responsibilities

SRE Governance & Operating Standards

• Establish and maintain common SRE governance standards across incident, problem, change, service transition, resilience and operational management.
• Define minimum operational and resilience expectations for services supported by SRE.
• Maintain clear RACI models across SRE, Engineering, Product and Service Management.
• Support maturity of the Product SRE, Project SRE and ProdOps operating model.

Operational Controls & Assurance

• Establish a structured control-assurance framework covering key production and operational risks.
• Coordinate evidence readiness for internal audit, external audit and second-line assurance activities.
• Track control weaknesses, exceptions and remediation actions through to closure.
• Ensure governance across access management, vulnerability remediation, change controls, service continuity and production readiness.
• Ensure evidence is complete, repeatable and auditable.

Operational Resilience & Recovery Assurance

• Lead the SRE resilience governance model across RI services.
• Establish common standards for DR, failover, BMR, recovery readiness and resilience evidence.
• Ensure critical services have current and tested recovery procedures aligned to materiality and business requirements.
• Coordinate resilience testing cadence and evidence across relevant services.
• Track RTO/RPO readiness, recovery gaps and remediation plans.
• Support central assurance of HA posture, failover capability and recovery dependencies.
• Strengthen governance around immutable backup/storage expectations where applicable.
• Ensure resilience risks are visible and actively managed through governance forums.

Capacity & Performance Assurance

• Establish governance for capacity planning, performance testing and autoscaling readiness.
• Introduce regular capacity attestation for critical services.
• Ensure capacity and performance risks are considered in service transition, change and resilience planning.
• Drive visibility of material capacity risks and remediation ownership.

Operational Excellence & Service Reviews

• Establish and govern a consistent Monthly Operational Review and service-review cadence across RI.
• Define common scorecards covering reliability, availability, incidents, changes, risks, resilience, vulnerabilities, service hygiene and improvement actions.
• Ensure review outputs translate into accountable actions with owners, dates and measurable outcomes.
• Promote evidence-led decision-making and continuous reliability improvement.

Process & Practice Standardisation

• Standardise practices across incident, problem, change, service transition, resilience and production support.
• Identify inconsistent or duplicated processes and drive simplification.
• Ensure governance supports engineering velocity rather than creating unnecessary friction.
• Support maturity assessments and improvement plans across SRE practices.

Operational Hygiene

• Establish expectations for runbooks, support groups, escalation paths, ownership records and operational documentation.
• Govern access reviews, service accounts, certificate/key tracking, monitoring coverage and operational evidence.
• Drive remediation of stale or incomplete operational artefacts.
• Introduce measurable operational-hygiene indicators.

Reporting, Management Information & Data Quality

• Own and improve the quality and consistency of SRE management information.
• Establish common reporting standards across reliability, incidents, changes, risks, resilience and service health.
• Improve consistency of underlying service, ownership and dependency data used in reporting.
• Reduce manual reconciliation and improve trust in central reporting.
• Drive automation of recurring governance and management reporting where appropriate.

Knowledge Management

• Establish governance around runbooks, KB articles, KEDB records and operational handover documentation.
• Ensure knowledge from incidents, problems, changes, service transitions and resilience exercises is retained and reusable.
• Reduce undocumented SME dependency and key-person risk.

Risk, Audit & Regulatory Engagement

• Act as the primary SRE governance and resilience contact for Risk, Audit, Cyber Security and relevant control functions.
• Coordinate remediation of operational-control and resilience findings.
• Provide executive visibility of key control and resilience risks.
• Ensure enterprise and regulatory requirements are translated into practical SRE operating expectations.
