Senior Manager, Content Strategy & Copywriting

Western Union is seeking a Senior Manager, Content Strategy & Copywriting to lead our Content team and help shape how customers experience our brand through words.

This role oversees a team of writers and editors responsible for creating and editing written content for our customers across digital products, digital experiences, promotional emails, social posts, blogs, and service communications. The ideal candidate is both a strategic thinker able to assemble value propositions and an exceptional editorial writer who can develop and execute competitive content strategies, coach and elevate a team, and contribute hands-on copywriting to support business priorities.

Success in this role requires strong content expertise, excellent cross-functional partnership skills, and the ability to balance strategic initiatives with day-to-day execution in a fast-paced environment. The role requires a person accustomed to dynamic environments with high demand and multiple priorities. The role aligns closely with the Marketing team’s quest to grow new customers and with the content team's mission of creating concise, compelling, and consistent customer-facing content across channels.

Role Responsibilities

Drive Content Strategy

• Define and execute content strategies that support customer experience, business objectives, and organic growth opportunities.

• Aspire to deliver compelling and differentiated content to capture audiences.

• Identify opportunities to improve content performance, consistency, and governance.

• Partner across teams to align content efforts with organizational priorities.

• Advocate for customer-focused communication and plain-language principles.

Deliver High-Quality Content Production

• Contribute directly to high volume content creation and editing, representing approximately 35% of the role.

• Create, review, and optimize content across a variety of channels, including digital pages, landing pages, blogs, FAQs, promotional email communications, service messaging, SMS, and product experiences.

• Leverage technologies and AI to augment volume production without sacrificing quality of messaging or brand reputation.

• Ensure content maintains a consistent voice, tone, and customer experience across touchpoints.

Lead Cross-Functional Programs

• Serve as the content lead for key strategic initiatives and programs.

• Manage competing stakeholder requests and help teams prioritize content work effectively.

• Establish and improve processes that drive efficiency, visibility, and scalability.

• Communicate content recommendations and strategy to leadership and business partners.

Basic Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, Digital Media, or a related field.

• 8+ years of experience in content strategy, copywriting, editorial, content marketing, UX writing, or related disciplines.

• 3+ years of people leadership experience, including managing and developing content professionals.

• Strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional writing, editing, and content strategy capabilities.

• Experience developing multi-channel content strategies and content governance frameworks.

• Ability to simplify complex information and create clear, compelling customer-focused communications.

• Experience partnering with cross-functional stakeholders and influencing decisions across multiple teams.

• Strong program management and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting digital products, customer experience, fintech, financial services, or technology organizations.

• Experience leading SEO-driven content initiatives and organic growth programs.

• Familiarity with AI-powered content creation, optimization, and editorial workflows.

• Experience building or scaling content operations within a growing or evolving organization.

• Experience developing editorial standards, style guides, and content governance processes.

Salary  

The base salary range is $117,000.00 – $156,000.00 per year, total on target compensation includes a base salary plus annual incentives that align with individual and company performance. Actual salaries will vary based on candidates’ qualifications, skills, and competencies.
