Our Senior Human Resources Generalist facilitates and enhances the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including hiring and interviewing staff, benefits, leave, and implementing company policies and practices under the direction of the Director of Human Resources. This role provides strategic and hands-on HR support to leadership while ensuring a positive employee experience and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations. The Senior HR Generalist plays a critical role in supporting workforce stability, improving employee engagement, and aligning HR initiatives with business goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate human resources matters, including talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, compensation administration, compliance, training and development, workforce planning, and HR policy administration. 
  • Supports multi-site manufacturing facilities.
  • Execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; compliance and training and development.
  • Reviews document compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments.
  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Coach managers on appropriate performance management and corrective action practices.
  • Assist with compensation analysis, wage administration, and market benchmarking.
  • Coordinate employee benefit enrollment, changes, and education efforts.
  • Support succession planning and leadership development initiatives.
  • Research, gather, collect, and maintain documents and information. 
  • Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.  Manage onboarding and orientation processes to ensure successful employee integration.
  • Ensure employee and employment record keeping is compliant and efficient.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring to complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommends best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Investigates accidents and prepares reports for insurance carriers.
  • Maintains knowledge and understanding of laws and regulations related to EEO, affirmative action, and human resources and takes appropriate action.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law and drives action as appropriate.
  • Prepares and reviews plans, policies, documents, and reports including EEO-1, , organizational charts, and employee handbooks.
  • Analyzes data and statistics for trends and patterns with attention to recruitment, hiring practices, motivation, turnover, and compliance with employment laws and regulations.
  • Makes recommendations for policies and activities to improve the organizational culture including suggestions to attract and hire qualified candidates, to motivate and retain employees, to address staffing issues, and to maintain legal compliance.
  • Facilitate implementation of new training, development, recruiting, and other related initiatives.
  • May guide and/or assist with performance, benefit, and compensation review and evaluation processes.
  • Organizational development, succession planning and coaching supervisors and managers to motivate and lead their teams.
  • Suggests and implements enhancements to workflows, notifications, announcements, checklists, etc. in the HRIS.
  • May lead HR-related projects and cross-functional teams.
  • Work to reduce and eliminate barriers and obstacles to improve overall cost and scheduling performance.
  • Work with our HR team to make it easier for employees to make quality products and make it easier for customers to do business with GSM.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for creating a professional, safe, and clean environment evidenced by: being at work on time to perform assigned duties, following the policies of Granite State Manufacturing, always wearing safety glasses in designated areas, maintaining a neat and orderly work area, and following safety practices to prevent errors.
  • Demonstrates commitment to teamwork by establishing effective relationships and networks with both managers/directors and workers and collaborating with them to accomplish shared purposes and goals.
  • Abides by GSM Code of Ethics and Business Conduct standards and strictly observes all U.S. and foreign laws and regulations.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree, five to seven years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 3 years supporting manufacturing, industrial, or production environments.
  • Knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Excellent time management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Experience with HRIS, ERP and other menu driven systems.
  • Regular travel between facilities.
  • Strong computer skills. Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email systems and scheduling.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; listens to others without interrupting; keeps emotions under control; remains open to others’ ideas and tries new things. Has ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
