The Role

We are seeking a Senior Group Reporting Accountant to join our Group Finance team. In this pivotal, high-visibility role, you will hold ultimate accountability for the accuracy of our reported numbers. Reporting directly as the main support to the Group Financial Controller, you will run both monthly and annual consolidations while owning the technical accounting areas that require specialist expertise.

This is a specialist role rather than a management position—there are no direct reports. Success in this role relies on influence, clear communication, and technical credibility. Local finance teams produce the underlying numbers for the consolidation, meaning you will spend time advising, chasing, and guiding them without line management authority. In return, you will enjoy true ownership of our technical accounting and consolidation processes, along with genuine scope to improve how our close and year-end operate. We want someone who fixes root-cause issues rather than working around them.

Key Responsibilities

• Monthly & Annual Consolidation: Run the monthly consolidation in Prophix. Own the consolidated P&L, balance sheet, cash flow statement, and associated variance commentary for the board pack.
• Planning & Forecasting: Own the consolidated balance sheet and cash flow statements for budgets and forecasts.
• Year-End & Statutory Reporting: Support the year-end consolidation, prepare statutory IFRS Group accounts, and produce year-end accounts for all UK entities (trading and non-trading).
• Technical Accounting Ownership: Serve as the Subject Matter Expert on IFRS. Own IFRS 16 reporting, foreign currency translation across the group, the expected credit loss model, and intercompany loan schedules (including interest calculations and documentation).
• Group Accounting Policy: Maintain and update group accounting policies, monitor changes to IFRS, assess business impact, and write clear technical position papers for audit.
• M&A & Acquisition Accounting: Account for newly acquired entities—handling purchase price allocations (PPA), fair value adjustments, opening balance sheets, consolidation integration, and annual goodwill impairment testing.
• Controls & Process Improvement: Monitor financial controls around the close (including balance sheet reconciliations and close timetables). Continuously identify and implement improvements to the close and year-end processes.
• Subsidiary Support & Stakeholder Management: Guide local finance managers on postings and accounting compliance, acting as a trusted advisor across international teams.
• Audit, Tax & Governance: Support external audit management, liaise with external tax advisors on compliance, and look for opportunities to simplify legal entity structures.
• Ad Hoc Projects: Provide agile support to the Group Financial Controller on strategic tasks as they arise.

Requirements

The Person

• Qualifications: ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified (or qualified by experience) with 2+ years of post-qualification experience (PQE).
• Technical Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of group consolidations, intercompany accounting, and IFRS within a multi-entity, multi-currency international business.
• AI & Modern Tools: A strong understanding of current leading AI tools and how to leverage them to drive efficiency in your day-to-day work.
• Systems Expertise: Advanced Excel skills are essential. Hands-on experience with NetSuite (running general ledgers) and Prophix consolidation software is highly beneficial.
• Delivery: A proven track record of managing multiple stakeholders concurrently and delivering under tight deadlines.
• AI Literacy & Tool Fluency: Ability to navigate, evaluate, and adopt domain-specific AI tools (e.g. generative text/image tools, enterprise copilots, automated analytics) to streamline daily work.
• Workflows & Prompting: Skill in structuring clear inputs and contexts to extract accurate, high-value outputs from AI platforms, converting machine results into actionable business deliverables.
• Output Validation & Quality Control: Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs for accuracy, hallucination, bias, relevance, and alignment with organisational standards before final execution.
