The Position

Role Overview

As a Senior Full-Stack Engineer – Enterprise ALM, Test Automation & AI within Roche’s Roche Difital Technology's Engineering Excellence & Experience organization, you will serve as a seasoned technical expert driving the evolution of our core engineering and lifecycle management platforms. Operating at the Product/Site level, your primary focus will be developing, maintaining, and adapting solutions like Jira and Codebeamer (known internally as Retina) to seamlessly fit the Roche environment.

A major component of this role is leading the charge on AI innovation and automation, ensuring our consumers can work more effectively and intuitively within these tools. You will navigate a highly regulated GxP environment, embedding robust software quality practices, addressing architectural debt, and cultivating a culture of mentorship and continuous learning.

Key Responsibilities

Solution Engineering & AI Innovation

• Tool Customization (Jira & Retina): Develop, maintain, and adapt Atlassian Jira/confluence and Codebeamer (Retina) solutions to meet the complex, enterprise-scale needs of the Roche environment.
• AI-Driven Productivity: Drive AI innovations within our toolchains to enhance the daily workflows of our consumers. Design and deploy cutting-edge AI features, including agentic operations and AI assistants.
• System Design: Design, build, deploy, and sustain custom software enhancements utilizing strong full-stack and modern delivery expertise.

Automation, Infrastructure & Quality

• High-Impact Automation: Champion an automation-first mindset, spearheading high-impact initiatives particularly focused on advanced software test automation.
• Infrastructure Delivery Lifecycle: Manage the end-to-end infrastructure delivery lifecycle, ensuring resilient, scalable deployments utilizing modern container solutions (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• GxP Compliance: Develop and validate software solutions in a strictly regulated GxP context, ensuring all tools and AI capabilities meet stringent industry compliance standards.
• Architectural Quality: Proactively identify and resolve system performance bottlenecks, complex technical debt, and architectural challenges across the broader technical landscape.

Initiative Ownership & Stakeholder Management

• Initiative Leadership: Take ownership of ambiguous technical areas ("grey zone" topics) and successfully drive small-to-medium (S/M) initiatives from conception to production.
• Strategic Alignment & Mentorship: Act as a technical mentor to peers, aligning development plans with Roche’s global strategy. Foster knowledge sharing by speaking at organizational events (e.g., DevOps Days, Tech Talks).
• Stakeholder Communication: Maintain a "big picture" view, prioritizing effectively and communicating how various technical components integrate into overarching organizational goals.

Required Qualifications & Technical Pillars

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate must possess deep expertise in the following three core areas:

• Software Development & Coding:
  • Proven, hands-on programming expertise with some of these languages Python, Java, or JavaScript and willingness to learn what is missing.
  • Strong full-stack development capabilities, able to design and improve the entire software delivery process from code to production.
• Automation Mindset & Test Automation:
  • Extensive experience leading and executing high-impact automation initiatives.
  • Deep specialization in software test automation, ensuring speed, reliability, and an unwavering software quality mindset.
• Applied AI Development:
  • Hands-on experience developing AI innovations to solve real-world user problems.
  • Specific experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP) creation and validation, agentic operations, and agentic testing (or similar advanced AI-integration frameworks).

Additional Required Experience

• GxP & Regulatory Environments: Proven experience developing and validating software solutions within a healthcare, pharmaceutical, or similarly regulated GxP context.
• Infrastructure & Containers: Strong working knowledge of the Infrastructure Delivery Lifecycle and hands-on experience deploying and managing container solutions.
• Enterprise ALM Tools: Familiarity with configuring, extending, or integrating enterprise tools like Jira and Codebeamer.
• Leadership & Delivery: Demonstrated track record of leading S/M initiatives, mentoring junior engineers, and navigating dynamic, matrixed group dynamics to challenge the status quo constructively.
