The Opportunity
We’ve built a cloud-native, AI-first platform that powers managed services for global enterprises. The architecture and product vision are set — what we need now is a Senior Engineering Manager who can take that vision and lead our engineering team to deliver it.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll be the person the Chief Architect trusts to keep the team moving in the right direction without constant oversight — catching drift early, raising the right flags, getting into the trenches on incidents, and making good calls in the gaps.
You’ll partner closely with the Technical Project Manager on planning and delivery, and with the Chief Architect and Lead Engineers on technical direction. The day-to-day execution, engineering quality and team health are yours to own.
If you’re a strong senior engineer who has grown into leading people, and you’re energised by being the dependable force that turns architectural intent into shipping software, this is your role.
What You’ll Own
- Translate the Chief Architect’s vision into shipped, production-ready code — making sure what’s on the whiteboard is what actually runs in production.
- Lead a team of 5–10 engineers day-to-day, including 1:1s, growth plans, performance conversations, hiring and team development.
- Stay hands-on — lead complex code reviews, pair on tough debugging, surface issues early and make sound tactical decisions within architectural guardrails.
- Mentor engineers at all levels, helping juniors become strong mids, mids become seniors, and seniors develop into technical leaders.
- Partner with the Technical Project Manager on sprint planning, capacity, estimates and delivery tracking — you bring the technical truth; they bring delivery discipline.
- Own engineering execution quality, including code review standards, architectural pattern adherence, testing, observability and operational readiness.
- Make tactical technical decisions on implementation approaches, libraries and refactoring, while knowing when to escalate.
- Drive platform reliability across uptime, performance, security, incident response and post-mortems that result in real improvements.
- Build a culture of engineering craftsmanship where the team holds the bar even when no one’s watching.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years leading engineering teams in production environments.
- Strong track record executing technical direction set by architects or senior technical leaders — comfortable making a vision real, not always defining it.
- Deep working knowledge of microservices, cloud-native design patterns and API-first development.
- Strong experience with Python, GraphQL, REST APIs, SQL and modern development toolchains.
- Solid experience with CI/CD, Docker/Kubernetes, infrastructure as code and DevSecOps practices.
- Production experience on AWS or comparable cloud infrastructure, ideally within a multi-tenant SaaS environment.
- Comfortable running agile delivery, including sprints, estimation, capacity planning and Jira or equivalent tools.
- Strong code review skills, with the ability to identify pattern violations, security issues and quality gaps before they reach production.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to give clear status to leadership and direct feedback to engineers.
- Detail-oriented and accountable — things don’t fall through the cracks on your watch.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
Strong Preference For
- Experience leading small-to-mid-sized engineering teams in fast-paced environments.
- Background building enterprise SaaS platforms or developer-facing products.
- Experience with Kubernetes, service mesh (Istio or similar) and federated GraphQL.
- Exposure to AI/ML platforms, agentic workflows or LLM-based product features.
- Experience leading distributed or remote engineering teams.
- Strong familiarity with observability, monitoring, SRE practices and incident response.
- A track record of growing engineers and helping them progress into more senior and leadership roles.
What You Bring
- Hands-on by choice — you lead from inside the work, not from above it.
- Trusted operator instinct — you can be handed a vision and a team and reliably make the thing happen.
- Mentor by default — you genuinely enjoy growing engineers, and they’re better for having worked with you.
- A quality bar that doesn’t move when things get busy.
- Bias for action within guardrails — you make decisions quickly, respect architectural boundaries and escalate the right things.
- Transparent communicator — you surface risks early, give honest reads on capacity and don’t hide bad news.
- Partnership mindset — you work seamlessly with TPMs, architects and product without ego.
- Calm in incidents — you’re the person people want on the bridge when production is on fire.
This is a chance to be the engineering leader who makes a real platform real — a modern, AI-first cloud platform changing how enterprises consume managed services.
The architectural vision is set, and the product is in market. What we need now is the operator who can make sure execution matches ambition.
You’ll work directly with a Chief Architect who needs a trusted engineering partner on the ground while they focus on the next set of strategic problems, alongside a Technical Project Manager who owns delivery coordination so you can stay focused on engineering.
If you’re ready to be the senior engineering leader a team and a platform can depend on — the person who turns vision into reality — we’d like to talk.
