About This Opportunity  

Build valuable experience while helping other UQ students explore career opportunities, strengthen their employability skills and feel more confident about their future. As a Casual Senior Employability Ambassador, you will support engaging workshops, events, employer activities and career development programs, while providing day-to-day guidance to Employability Ambassadors. 

Casual hours vary based on operational needs, with increased opportunities during key campaign periods. You must be available during the week before and the week of Employability Week, held from 8 to 11 March 2027. 

Key responsibilities will include:  

• Assist in coordinating and monitoring the delivery of employability, career development and student engagement activities, including workshops, events, presentations, employer engagement initiatives and Employability Week activities.

• Engage with students, staff, employers and community stakeholders to provide information about career development opportunities, employability programs and co-curricular experiences available through UQ.

• Represent the University at on-campus and off-campus events and activities in a professional, welcoming and inclusive manner when interacting with students, staff, employers and external stakeholders.

• Provide peer-to-peer information, guidance and referrals using approved resources, procedures and communication channels.

• Assist with the promotion of employability and career development initiatives through approved digital platforms, communication channels and social media activities.

• Contribute to student engagement activities by sharing personal experiences, encouraging participation in employability opportunities and supporting students to build confidence in their career development journey.

• Monitor and support event delivery by assisting with registrations, attendance tracking and logistics, resolving routine operational issues and escalating more complex matters when required.

• Assist with the setup, operation and pack-down of events and activities in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements.

• Provide guidance and support to Employability Ambassadors (HEW 2), acting as a first point of contact for routine operational enquiries and an escalation point for ambassador-related matters before referral to professional staff.

• Contribute ideas to improve student engagement and event delivery by gathering feedback and sharing recommendations with professional staff.

• Comply with relevant policies, procedures, training requirements, privacy obligations and workplace health and safety requirements.

About You  

You are comfortable supporting and guiding other Employability Ambassadors, sharing knowledge and experience, and helping foster a positive, professional and inclusive team environment. You enjoy encouraging others, answering routine questions and contributing to the smooth delivery of ambassador activities. 

You are a confident and capable communicator who enjoys engaging with a diverse range of people and can build positive working relationships with students, staff, employers and community stakeholders. You are comfortable representing UQ in a professional manner and can communicate information clearly, accurately and appropriately across a range of settings. 

You are organised, proactive and dependable, with the ability to manage competing priorities, adapt to changing requirements and contribute to the successful delivery of events, programs and engagement activities. You can work collaboratively as part of a team while also taking initiative and exercising sound judgement when working independently.  

You are confident using digital tools and platforms, including Microsoft 365 and social media channels, to support communication, engagement and administrative activities. You pay attention to detail, follow established procedures and understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality, professionalism and accountability in your work. 

Most importantly, you are committed to creating positive, inclusive and engaging experiences for students from diverse backgrounds. You are enthusiastic about supporting your peers to explore career opportunities, develop employability skills and make the most of their university experience. As a Senior Employability Ambassador, you act as a positive role model and contribute to fostering a connected, student-centred culture across the University community.

To be eligible, you must 

• Be currently enrolled in an active UQ program and remain enrolled in 2027. 

• Have completed at least one semester of study at UQ. 

• Have at least 12 months remaining in your program. 

• Be available during Employability Week, 8 to 11 March 2027, and the week beforehand. 

SELECTION CRITERIA 

I. Knowledge and Skills 

Essential 

1. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage professionally with students, staff and stakeholders, provide information using approved resources, and follow established procedures and referral pathways. 

2. Demonstrated ability to work independently, exercise initiative, and provide guidance and support to peers, volunteers or team members. 

3. Strong organisational, administrative and digital skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities and use Microsoft 365 and other approved platforms. 

4. Demonstrated commitment to creating positive and inclusive student experiences while maintaining confidentiality and complying with University requirements.

II. Experience 

Essential 

1. Experience providing peer leadership, mentoring, coordination support, or informal supervision of volunteers, student leaders, ambassadors, or similar groups. 

2. Experience working in customer service, events, peer leadership, student ambassador, mentoring, hospitality, retail, administrative or similar service-focused environments. 

3. Experience supporting or delivering student-facing activities, events, presentations, workshops or engagement initiatives.

Desirable 

1. Experience using digital communication tools, online platforms and social media channels to support student engagement, event promotion, communication campaigns, content creation, or other promotional activities.

You will also bring 

• Demonstrated interest in career development, employability, leadership and co-curricular engagement.
