Job Description Summary:

The Senior Director, Planning & Portfolio Communications turns P&C strategy and portfolio decisions into a clear, connected enterprise narrative. The role owns communications for the strategic P&C portfolio, including message development, audience strategy, channel and forum choices, executive materials and communication measurement.

This role reports to the Senior Director II, Planning and Portfolio and works across the Planning and Portfolio networked team. It partners with the CPO office and P&C LT, initiative sponsors and owners, P&C, PACS, People Services, P&C Business Partners and OUs. The role applies change judgment to communications that support readiness and adoption.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Portfolio Narrative

  • Own the integrated narrative across the LRP, ABP and strategic P&C portfolio.
  • Translate strategy and portfolio choices into clear messages on what is changing, why it matters and what action is required.
  • Maintain one coherent storyline across governance, leader and broader portfolio communications.

Audience, Channel and Forum Strategy

  • Define audience segments, communication objectives, message hierarchy, sequencing and calls to action.
  • Evaluate leadership, governance, practitioner, manager, employee, written and digital channels against audience, purpose, timing and sensitivity.
  • Recommend when to use, combine, adapt or avoid channels and forums, limiting duplicate communications and unnecessary meetings.
  • Own the strategic portfolio communications roadmap and align it with planning, governance and initiative milestones.

Executive and Leader Communications

  • Develop executive-ready narratives, presentations, talking points, FAQs and leader materials.
  • Equip leaders to explain priority, sequencing, stopping and simplification decisions clearly and candidly.
  • Advise sponsors on message choices, communication risks and areas of likely confusion.
  • Lead development of executive materials for enterprise planning and portfolio topics, drawing on the relevant subject-matter owner for content and evidence.

Readiness and Adoption Communications

  • Use change experience to anticipate stakeholder impact, ambiguity and resistance.
  • Design communications that move audiences from awareness to understanding and action.
  • Partner with Organizational Change Capability and HR for HR on their respective accountabilities.

Measurement and Digital Fluency

  • Define and track measures of clarity, usefulness, leader readiness, reach and intended action.
  • Use feedback and certified evidence from People Intelligence to improve messages, channels and timing.
  • Use approved AI-enabled tools responsibly to improve audience insight, synthesis, quality and personalization.

Measures of Success

  • A clear, consistent narrative across LRP, ABP and the strategic P&C portfolio.
  • Executive and leader materials that make choices, rationale and required action easy to understand.
  • Communication delivered through the right forums and channels, with less duplication and fewer unnecessary meetings.
  • Evidence that priority audiences understand the plan and know what action is required.
  • Strong coordination with CPO office, planning, HR for HR and communications partners, with ownership boundaries maintained.

Candidate Profile

  • Enterprise communicator who turns strategy and decisions into a credible narrative.
  • Strong executive writer and storyteller with sound judgment on audience, channel and timing.
  • Change-experienced communications leader who is clear about ownership boundaries.
  • Trusted advisor who can challenge sponsors constructively and simplify complex material.
  • Collaborative leader who works effectively across a multidisciplinary team and large communications network.

Experience and Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Human Resources, Organizational Change, Business, Behavioral Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years experience in enterprise, executive, portfolio or transformation communications in a global matrix.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and executing communications strategies, including integrated narratives and multi-channel plans, for complex portfolios.
  • Experience preparing senior executive materials with subject-matter owners.
  • Practical change experience, including stakeholder analysis, readiness considerations and adoption-oriented communications.
