Job Description:
Reporting to Director, Design, you will contribute to the development and design of our Collectibles & or Wheels & Action toys, and work hand in hand with North America Design Team, Asia Engineering and Product Development teams to help deliver multiple product lines that exceeds the business and customer’s expectations.
What will you work on?
Act as a bridge assisting the North America Design teams to drive their vision through development.
Work closely with Engineering teams, model shops and vendors, to provide on site design input on products through all stages of development (from initial briefing, through model making to production).
Lead proof of concept models build for feasibility, review CAD files and models.
Support med-high complexity items with Design inputs that focus on aesthetics, play patterns, providing clear visual and written communication with suggested improvement comments throughout the development stages.
Support low-med complexity items’ Design spec creation & updates throughout development.
Prioritize area of focus among multiple projects & brands base on biggest business impact with limited oversight from manager.
Support and participate in strategic initiatives/technical workshops/facilitate sharing session within team & across functional teams.
Lead by example, coaches/reviews the work of lower-level professionals with an active focus on imparting expertise, potentially setting goals and objectives for team members to help achieve operational results.
Perform other duties include new product ideas generation to support North America D&D.
Travel to China and other locations in Asia will be required.
What are your skills and experience?
University undergraduate in Product, toy, Industrial Design or equivalent.
At least 5+ years design experience (toy industry preferred).
Experienced working with remote design teams in North America, active listening/ providing proposals /alignment skills and with excellent verbal communication during VC calls.
Experienced working on a wide range of product types within the Preschool or Wheels & Action category.
Ability to interpret design intent with a thorough understanding of play pattern and a very strong aesthetic sense.
Skilled in design optimization for manufacture including DFA, DFC
Strong knowledge of decoration and manufacturing methods.
Strong knowledge of costing, able to read and understand quote sheets and provide cost down suggestions maintaining play pattern and feature hierarchy.
Basic to good tooling knowledge. What design factors can reduce part count or help increase tooling capacity and provide design adjustment suggestions to leverage these.
Good material knowledge (including plastics and any category specific materials).
Experienced in providing clear visual and written communication with suggested actionable comments to cross functional team members.
Clear communicator in English, both written and spoken.
A proactive, collaborative & growth mindset, with a professional, mature attitude recognized by others.
Effectively communicates and collaborates with cross functional teams & build strong relationships with cross functional peers.
Know when and how to escalate challenges promptly and keeps leadership informed of critical updates.
Intellectually curious, always striving to learn more and do better, regardless of where the ideas come from.
