Help us create a better future, quicker!

As SP Energy Networks continues to expand its transmission investment programme, we are looking to appoint 3 x Senior Construction Managers, one per region, within the Core Portfolio team. Reporting directly to the Regional Construction Leads

ScottishPower is investing over £12 billion into the transmission network over the next five years, delivering some of the most ambitious infrastructure programmes in our history. Our Transmission teams are at the heart of this transformation, delivering essential upgrades that will reshape how energy is transmitted across the South of Scotland and beyond. From large‑scale network developments to future‑focused expansion, the projects you’ll be involved in will play a critical role in enabling a cleaner, greener energy system, supporting the UK’s transition to net zero and strengthening energy security.

As a Senior Construction Manager, you’ll lead a Construction Unit responsible for delivering complex transmission infrastructure projects, combining strong leadership with excellent construction delivery and pre‑construction capability. Based out of our Cambuslang or Edinburgh Park office, with regular travel to sites, this is a highly visible leadership role with real influence over how major transmission projects are planned, built and delivered.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead and manage a Construction Unit, overseeing the planning, coordination and delivery of multiple construction projects.
  • Provide direct line management to a team of Construction Managers, with responsibility for coaching, performance, capability development and succession planning, whilst also providing leadership and oversight to indirect Construction Department team members, including Trainees.
  • Ensure the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of works in line with programme, budget and quality expectations.
  • Play an active role in pre‑construction activity, including constructability input, programme planning, contractor engagement and risk mitigation.
  • Work collaboratively with Project Management, Engineering, Commercial and HSQE teams to ensure seamless end to end delivery.
  • Maintain strong oversight of contractor performance, supply chain relationships and stakeholder interfaces.
  • Champion health, safety, environmental and quality standards across all site activities.

What you’ll bring

  • Proven senior construction leadership experience, managing teams within a complex delivery environment.
  • Strong track record in construction delivery, alongside demonstrable involvement in pre‑construction and development phases.
  • Experience delivering projects within electricity transmission, power, or large‑scale infrastructure, or transferable sectors such as civils, rail or major regulated infrastructure.
  • Confident people leader with the ability to motivate teams, manage performance and drive a positive safety culture.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Sound commercial awareness, with experience managing contractors and controlling cost, risk and programme.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant Construction or Engineering discipline.
  • Professional membership (or working towards) with a recognised body such as CIOB, ICE or similar.
  • SMSTS (or equivalent).
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly to sites.
