Position Summary

The Senior Center Assistant will support the Blair Visitor Center operations and guest services at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary including admissions, its Nature Store and Rooney Cafe sales, Spurlino Foundation Discovery Center operations, visitor and volunteer assistance, boardwalk opening and closing and membership sales.  The Senior Center Assistant will work in the Center and provide excellent customer service by warmly, eagerly, and kindly welcoming each visitor with information about the Sanctuary.

This is a full-time, on-site position of 40 hours a week. Specific shift times are typically assigned within a 7:30 am to 5:30 pm window and may shift seasonally.

Compensation:
$23.00 - $24.50 / hour

Additional Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Deliver excellent customer service; contributing to a welcoming environment for all guests, visitors, members, volunteers, and event attendees coming through the Blair Visitor Center.

  • Support retail, food service, and admissions operations throughout the Blair Visitor Center, including restocking supplies, maintaining a clean work area.

  • Process all cash and credit card transactions, follow all related cash handling and purchasing procedures, supports customer purchases and ticket changes, and runs related reports.

  • Promote, sell, and renew memberships.

  • Proactively assess and respond to visitor needs, questions, and phone calls and update all on-site signage and online ticket information.

  • Act as a point of contact in case of emergencies and report situations to appropriate parties.

  • Assist with planning and operations of special events.

  • Open and close the Spurlino Foundation Discovery Center and organize and maintain furniture, exhibits, and video monitors.

  • Provide administrative assistance as needed, including merchandise entry, troubleshooting basic on-site technology issues, and verifying and recording daily register deposits of the various registers.

  • Support and help develop online and in-center promotions, communications, and ticketing.

  • Support opening and closing the boardwalk, as needed.

  • Maintain knowledge of Sanctuary ecology, natural history, and Audubon activities and policies.

  • Efficiently and correctly handle deliveries.

  • Maintains and fosters culture of safety.

  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • GED or high school diploma required and 0-1 years of experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

  • Commitment to Audubon’s organizational values of care, collaboration, change, integrity, impact, and innovation and Audubon’s conservation mission

  • Experience fostering inclusive and collaborative work environments is valued.

  • Experience in a customer service, retail, or administrative support role.

  • Excellent customer service and relationship building skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and welcoming demeanor.

  • Must be eager to learn and share knowledge with others.

  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, potentially noisy environment.

  • Must work well in a team and professionally represent Audubon to the public and volunteers.

  • Able to follow direction and work independently.

  • Ability to quickly learn a point of sale/ticketing database.

  • Ability to handle cash, receipts, and credit card transactions accurately.

  • Computer experience and high comfort level with technology, including MS Office, Outlook and other web-based applications.

  • Ability to maneuver with up to 25 lbs. and traverse at least 3 miles in a variety of weather conditions, with or without accommodation.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Ability to develop a basic understanding of Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary’s natural history.
