About The Syphilis-Free Start Team

Every year, there are over 200,000 stillbirths and newborn deaths and over 100,000 instances of disability among newborns because of a preventable infection; maternal syphilis. In fact, the infection causes more stillbirths and newborn deaths than pediatric HIV, yet receives only a fraction of the resources.

Through our Syphilis-Free Start (SFS) program, our aim is to close syphilis screening gaps via introduction of HIV/syphilis dual testing and to close treatment gaps by implementing strategies to address context-specific treatment barriers for women who test positive for syphilis. We've already reached mothers across Liberia, Zambia, Cameroon, and Côte d'Ivoire, with new pilots underway in Indonesia and are continuing to scope our programs in additional geographies.

Our Syphilis Free Start team is hiring two (2) program associates; one who will help support our teams in our existing footprint across Liberia, Zambia, Cote d’Ivoire, and Cameroon, while the other who will manage scoping research and supporting stakeholder engagement for prospective future geographies. You'll report to the (Senior) Manager and play a key role in supporting one of the most urgent and achievable maternal health goals of our time!

In this role you will:

• Contribute to program planning, workplan development, and reporting on the global SFS program both internally and externally.
• Participate in coordination meetings and help coordinate country program updates.
• Work in collaboration with the MLE team on SFS-related monitoring and evaluation activities, including periodic data quality reviews, facility observation tools, data collection, and progress reporting.
• Collaborate with cross-cutting teams (technical, MLE, operations, and program finance) to further our programmatic objectives and support program delivery.
• Assist with donor reporting, and other materials as needed.

Country Support Associate

• Support the SFS leadership in providing day-to-day support and problem-solving to SFS country teams in Liberia, Zambia, Cote d'Ivoire, and Cameroon.
• Develop and refine existing program strategies and tools such as training materials, to support country programs 
• Help country teams identify and troubleshoot implementation bottlenecks and document implementation challenges, adaptations, and promising practices across countries for program learning and donor reporting.
• Help ensure SFS program tools, training materials, and job aids reflect current evidence and align with WHO and national guidelines.
• Support country teams in planning and executing training and mentorship activities for facility-level health workers.
• Help synthesize learnings and best practices across countries and support their adoption program-wide.

Expansion Associate

• Support expansion efforts by assisting in preliminary research around existing country capacity, the development of scoping reports and databases, and developing relationships with potential partners in target geographies. 
• Support scoping trips across high burden geographies identified via desk research to understand the broader country context by engaging in stakeholder meetings and  health facility visits.
• Assist with designing and supporting informal data collection exercise across health facilities. 
• Support oversight of external partners in collaboration with the SFS Manager, coordinating subcontractor timelines while keeping internal operations running smoothly. 
• Partner with cross-functional teams to support financial, operational, and request for proposal (RFP) workflows and processes. 

Requirements

• You hold a  Bachelor's degree with 3-5 years' of relevant work experience OR Masters degree with 1-3 years of relevant work experience in public health, international development, economics or other related field 

• You have experience living and/or working with global health programs in a low or middle-income country setting,
•  You have the ability to manage complex and interdependent workplans and projects, prioritize, and adapt plans, including building structured, but flexible, processes.
• You have experience supporting government counterparts and country based program teams
• You are  able to adapt your communications style for teams at different skill levels and across different cultural contexts.
• You enjoy building processes from ambiguity and can help the team operate across low resource program contexts. 
• Oral and written proficiency in French desired.

Location

The preferred base for this role is in Washington, DC, USA.

The expected role range for this US position is listed below. We consider multiple factors when determining the base salary for a role, including but not limited to: role scope, program budgets, internal equity, and a candidate’s qualifications and/or prior experience.

Note: Pay and benefits will be commensurate with the role specifications, local statutory requirements, and the cost of labor in the markets where we operate.

The expected pay range for this full-time role is $60,000- $68,400 per year.
