The Role

The Senior Associate Pharmacist leads the day-to-day operations of one or more Relarex pharmacy locations. They supervise and support Associate Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians to ensure patients receive the right medicines safely, accurately, and on time while delivering excellent customer service. The role combines clinical pharmacy practice, team leadership, and operational management. The Senior Associate Pharmacist sets performance goals, coaches team members, monitors service quality, and ensures pharmacy activities comply with regulatory and safety standards. They also provide guidance on complex medication-related questions, use data to improve pharmacy performance, oversee medicine inventory and supply, and work closely with doctors, nurses, customer care, logistics, technology, and other teams to improve patient care and pharmacy services.

What You'll Do

  • Review, prepare, and dispense prescriptions safely, accurately, and in a timely manner.
  • Provide medication counselling to patients and ensure they understand the proper use of their medications.
  • Support the resolution of complex medication-related issues, including drug interactions and patient care concerns.
  • Collaborate with doctors and other healthcare professionals to optimize medication use and improve patient outcomes.
  • Supervise, coach, and support Associate Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians to achieve team goals and maintain high performance.
  • Monitor pharmacy performance, including dispensing accuracy, turnaround time, productivity, and patient satisfaction.
  • Identify training needs and support the continuous development of the pharmacy team.
  • Ensure compliance with Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) regulations, pharmacy laws, and company policies.
  • Conduct quality audits, investigate medication incidents, and implement corrective actions to improve patient safety.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of prescriptions, medication errors, adverse events, and other pharmacy records.
  • Oversee medicine inventory, ensuring proper stock management, storage, and availability while minimizing waste and stock shortages.
  • Analyze pharmacy performance data and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, service quality, and patient satisfaction.
  • Monitor key pharmacy performance metrics and provide recommendations for operational improvement.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including doctors, nurses, operations, customer care, technology, finance, and logistics, to improve pharmacy services.
  • Represent the pharmacy team in meetings and contribute to initiatives that enhance pharmacy operations and patient care.

Requirements

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited institution. 
  • Current license to practice as a pharmacist in Nigeria with active registration from the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN).  
  • Completion of NYSC or possession of valid exemption certificate. 
  • 3 – 5 years post-NYSC pharmacy experience including at least 2 years in clinic, hospital, community, retail or digitally enabled pharmacy setting. 
  • Strong clinical knowledge with the ability to resolve complex medication-related problems and provide medication counselling. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Experience using pharmacy or electronic medical record (EMR) systems and other digital healthcare tools. Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and using performance data to improve pharmacy operations.

Nice to Have: 

  • Experience working in digital health, telemedicine, pharmacy benefits management (PBM), or health insurance environment.  
  •  Demonstrated experience supervising or mentoring pharmacy staff, interns, or technicians.  
  • Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical logistics and supply chain management, including warehousing, inventory control, delivery, and cold-chain operations. 
  • Exposure to healthcare financing models such as health insurance and pharmacy benefits management.
