The team is also responsible for forecasting and budgeting capitalization-related costs, analyzing actual results against plan, identifying financial risks and opportunities, and providing insights to leadership. Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, collaboration across diverse teams, and the ability to understand both financial concepts and evolving technology initiatives.
This role is designed for an individual who thrives in ambiguity, takes ownership of complex challenges, and enjoys solving problems in a dynamic and evolving environment. The successful candidate will work closely with Finance leadership and play a key role in supporting and enhancing Mastercard's Software Capitalization function while gaining exposure to a broad range of finance, accounting, technology, and governance activities.

Role:
• Evaluate software development initiatives and capitalization requests by applying Mastercard policy and accounting guidance to determine capitalization eligibility
• Take ownership of complex processes and business challenges by proactively identifying risks and opportunities, evaluating potential solutions, and driving issues through resolution.
• Partner with Technology, Product, Program Management, Finance, and Controllership teams to support capitalization decisions and ensure compliance with Mastercard policy and applicable accounting guidance.
• Lead cross-functional efforts to resolve business, operational, and data quality issues while balancing stakeholder needs, financial requirements, and control expectations.
• Assist with preparation of the annual budgets and monthly forecasts related to software capitalization, while supporting broader planning and forecasting processes
• Provide financial reporting and insights to management, including analysis of actual results, key drivers, risks, and opportunities
• Drive strategy and process improvements related to budgeting, forecasting, reporting systems, and capitalization processes; proactively identify opportunities, build recommendations, influence stakeholders, and lead implementation of agreed-upon improvements.
• Identify, analyze, and communicate trends and issues affecting the business, including addressing ad hoc financial requests and helping develop mitigation plans
• Maintain and enhance performance, capitalization, and expense tracking reports to drive insight, transparency, and accountability across the organization
• Serve as a trusted advisor to business and technology stakeholders by translating complex technical initiatives into financial and accounting impacts
All About You
• Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related business field required
• Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in Finance, Accounting, FP&A, technology finance, controllership, or a related field. More experienced candidates with demonstrated process ownership are strongly preferred.
• Experience supporting software capitalization, technology finance, or technology accounting processes a plus.
• Ability to learn and understand complex technologies, business processes, and system interdependencies in order to assess financial and operational impacts
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make well-reasoned decisions when applying policies, guidance, and controls to complex or evolving business scenarios
• Effective communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to translate complex financial and technical information into actionable insights and effectively partner with both technical and business stakeholders
• Strong finance and analytical skills, including forecasting, budgeting, financial reporting, and analysis of financial results
• Demonstrated ability to independently own complex business processes, apply strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, develop well-reasoned recommendations, and drive solutions to completion in ambiguous situations with limited direction.
• Highly self-directed with a strong sense of ownership, intellectual curiosity, and a demonstrated ability to challenge assumptions, navigate ambiguity, and influence outcomes through sound judgment, analysis, and proactive problem solving.
• Technical proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint required; experience with Hyperion, Power BI, DAX, Power Query, Power Automate, or related tools is a plus.
