Reports to: VP of Accounting
Location: Cottonwood Heights, Utah (Hybrid - 3x/week in-office)
About the Role
Backcountry is in an exciting stretch of growth, and you will be at the center of it. As Senior Accountant, you will own key areas of consolidated financials across our brands, working with enterprise systems, large data sets, and directly alongside the VP of Accounting and CFO. As new businesses join the family, you will help integrate them and build the controls and processes that scale with us.
In your first 6–12 months, success looks like a clean, on-time close for your areas, acquired entities integrated smoothly, key controls documented and strengthened, AI and automation built into your workflows, and Staff Accountants who are stronger because of your coaching.
This is a lean team. You will own a lot, move fast, and make decisions with full end-to-end responsibility.
What You'll Do
Prepare consolidated internal and external financial statements across Backcountry's brands
Perform flux and trend analytics to assess and explain changes in results
Lead, train, and mentor Staff Accountants; review their journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analyses
Own key areas of the balance sheet and P&L, including variances and their forward-looking implications
Prepare the weekly cash flow and present it to the CFO, with a clear view of how the inputs and outputs reflect Backcountry's liquidity
Maintain and balance the consolidation system
Lead the accounting integration of acquired businesses, including onboarding entities to the ERP and consolidation, aligning accounting policies, and supporting purchase accounting
Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations; substantiate financial transactions and prepare account roll-forwards
Design, document, and test internal controls that scale with growth
Build well-documented close processes and drive improvements that shorten the close
Apply AI and automation to streamline reconciliations, analysis, and reporting, and help the team adopt these tools
Identify, research, and explain variances between actual and forecasted performance
Stay current on accounting standards, M&A accounting, and emerging finance technology
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting

Excellent written, verbal, and analytical skills
Ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
