Job Description:
This job is responsible for facilitating scrum ceremonies, managing dependencies, providing visibility into delivery plans and progress, promoting agile principles and mindset through coaching, and enabling continuous improvement across multiple scrum teams. Key responsibilities include optimizing the flow of stories and the value delivered for medium to high complexity projects and programs. Job expectations include ensuring the team resolves impediments quickly, following agreed-to processes, and maintaining a good relationship with the product management team and other stakeholders.

The Global Merchants & Payments Technology (GMPT) team is looking for an experienced Senior Scrum Master who has a strong understanding of Banking Technology and Agile delivery. The position is aligned to the GMPT Bill Pay and Invoicing Technology team that is part of the ITGPST organization.

The Scrum Master is expected to facilitate the scrum process, routines, and communications. This individual, acting as a servant leader, increases team efficiency, motivates the agile team, removes impediments, and oversees changes that will ensure quality and timely execution, while ensuring that the definition of done is understood and followed. The ideal candidate is a passionate Scrum Master who enjoys leading agile teams and contributing to a skill group with like-minded agile professionals.

 

Responsibilities:

• Facilitates Scrum ceremonies including Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Backlog Refinement, Sprint Demos/Reviews, and Sprint Retrospectives
• Provides visibility into the Agile team’s delivery plans and progress against plan to stakeholders
• Manages risk including dependency management, impediment removal and compliance with Enterprise Change Management and other policy requirements
• Applies metrics to assess team delivery, maturity, and performance and identifies and shares improvement opportunities with the team
• Partners with product stakeholders to ensure the team has a healthy product and Sprint backlog
• Provides coaching and mentoring to the team for them to become high performing by collaborating, focusing on continuous improvement including cross-training, and sharing knowledge on scrum practices and Agile principles
• Leads scaled planning for the team including Pre Planning/Preparation and Program Increment Planning Events) and represents the team in Scrum of Scrums/Agile Release Train Syncs
• Facilitate Scrum routines i.e. Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Backlog Refinement, Sprint Demos/Reviews, and Sprint Retrospectives.
• Collaborates with Product owner, development and test team members to prioritize and define stories using JIRA.
• Coordinates the work between onshore based in US and offshore team based in India.
• Integrates with project, technology and business partners to manage the projects and be proactive in gathering status updates from partners, while minimizing impact.
• Able to influence and negotiate both vertically and horizontally to obtain agreement between partners.
• Ensures the team has a healthy Product and Sprint backlog (in collaboration with the Product Owner).
• Provides visibility into the Agile team’s delivery plans and progress against plan to stakeholders.
• Measures team delivery, maturity, and performance and reviews the metrics with the team to identify improvement opportunities.

 

Required Qualifications

• 7 + years Scrum Master experience, with knowledge of other consumer banking applications and/or Payment fundamentals
• Strong working knowledge of Lean Agile SDLC processes and deliverables.
• Proven experience in the ability to lead discussions and learning sessions with 30+ attendees.
• Willingness to facilitate learning and empower team members to teach others (Train the Trainer).
• Strong experience in developing and delivering Agile education sessions. Able to coach the team.
• Experience in education at all levels of management within the agile framework (portfolio, program, team).
• Strong feature and story backlog prioritization and refinement.
• Strong release planning (Program Increment).
• Excellent analysis and troubleshooting skills.
• Process oriented and detailed oriented.
• Positive attitude and open to feedback.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to be accountable for meeting all deliverable dates for task assignments.
• Ability to foster strong collaboration among team members and help team solve problems.
• Self-motivation, self-direction, organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex fast paced environment without sacrificing quality or timelines.
• Understands the roles and responsibilities of other teams who participate in the lifecycle and engages as required.
• Identifies risk/dependencies and quantifies the impact it has on the business/technology and what controls are to be used to resolve.
• Ability to provide input for financial planning. Understands the variances.
• Experience in change management coordinator responsibilities to support release planning and execution.
• Hands-on experience with Jira.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
• Exposure to core Banking, payments strongly desired.

Pay range

$97,400.00 - $150,000.00 annualized salary, offers to be determined based on experience, education and skill set.

Discretionary incentive eligible

This role is eligible to participate in the annual discretionary plan. Employees are eligible for an annual discretionary award based on their overall individual performance results and behaviors, the performance and contributions of their line of business and/or group; and the overall success of the Company.
