Are you an Associate Scientist within the ADME-Tox field looking for a role in industry wanting to contribute to global drug discovery? If so, then this could be the opportunity for you! 

As an integral member of the Cyprotex team, you will be laboratory-based, working closely  with our highly skilled and enthusiastic team to ensure that studies are performed to a high standard and within scheduled time frames. In addition, you will support the training and development of staff, improving the team’s knowledge and processes.

Role Type: Permanent 

Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week

Cyprotex vision is to be pioneers of innovative ADME-Tox partnerships, driving delivery of safer and more effective medicines.  With state-of-the-art facilities and technical expertise, we specialise in in vitro and in silico ADME-Tox services, providing a wide range of assays tailored to our client’s needs.  This includes in vitro screening to support discovery projects, regulatory studies to support preclinical and clinical development, specialist mechanistic in vitro human and animal toxicity models and PBPK/QSAR modelling expertise. As well as supporting clients directly, we have a strong focus on R&D. 

Our Alderley Park site is set in the heart of Cheshire surrounded by stunning 400-acre estate, open green spaces, sweeping viewpoints, all within easy reach of Merseyside and Greater Manchester, Staffordshire, and Shropshire. Easy access to public transport.   

Key Responsibilities 

  • Conducts routine assays (both manually and using liquid-handling robots) and data processing to high quality within specified time frames. to tight deadlines.  
  • Demonstrates ability to use scientific knowledge in safety toxicity assessment in data analysis, interpretation and troubleshooting. 
  • Proactively and continually identifies improvement opportunities within the group’s processes and assays.  Supports senior scientists in the team to review and action any appropriate improvements  
  • Supports senior team members with assay development, validation and bespoke assays, driving forward any projects involved in, working closely with the Information Systems teams where required  
  • Coaches and mentors associate scientists and other colleagues within the team on assay execution and data analysis  
  • Follow safety regulations and quality control procedures  
  • To ensure that all errors and erroneous results are reported to your supervisor with minimal delay.  

Education, Qualifications and Experience 

  • Minimum of a BSc in a life sciences discipline, with hands-on experience in a laboratory environment, including direct experience in cell-based and/or toxicology assays.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of laboratory operations and processes, with the ability to work effectively within a semi-automated, high-throughput environment while maintaining data quality and turnaround expectations
  • Essential: Proven, hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture techniques, with the ability to independently maintain, passage, and assay cells to a high standard. Cell culture is a core component (~50%) of the role and underpins all assay delivery
  • Demonstrated experience with cell-based analytical platforms, such as high-content imaging systems, flow cytometry, and/or Seahorse analysers, including data acquisition and interpretation
  • Proven experience in the use of liquid handling and laboratory automation systems, e.g. Multidrop, Bravo, Viaflo or equivalent platforms, with an understanding of their role in assay reproducibility and scalability
  • Strong operational mindset, with a focus on delivering consistent, high-quality data within short turnaround times, and the ability to identify, implement, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Solid understanding of data integrity, documentation standards, and adherence to SOPs.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot assays, instrumentation, and cell-based systems efficiently to minimise impact on delivery timelines.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to prioritise workload, manage competing demands, and contribute effectively within a team-focused environment. 

Additional Benefits  

  • Pension on completion (but not subject to) of your 3-month probationary period. Contributions 5% for employees (salary sacrifice) and 5% for the employer. The employee can opt to increase their contribution and the employer will match the increase up to a maximum of 7.5%.
