About the Role

The RCC Quality Control Engineer will ensure that the Contractor’s quality control processes are fit for purpose for the supply and placement of roller compacted concrete (RCC) and ensure that the daily quality control is undertaken as required for the continuous placement of RCC. Qualifications:

• With at least a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or relevant field and a minimum of 10 years of experience in the design and construction of RCC dams, including design, review of technical specifications, construction supervision, and quality control.
• Professional Certification: Registration as a Chartered or Professional Engineer by internationally recognized institution or association. This is a mandatory requirement. By law of Samoa, staff shall be chartered member of the local IPES.
  

Responsibilities:

Engineer will:

• Ensure that the Quality Control Systems, Processes and Laboratory Infrastructure is appropriate for the continuous operation of the Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) batching, delivery, placement, compaction and lift surface preparation. Ensure that the design-and-build contractor’s quality control personnel are undertaking there work as expected for an RCC dam.
• Ensure quality assurance during construction, which may include field observation and testing, as well as prepare documentation and provide responses to project-specific questions and concerns from IAs and the contractor;
• Monitor day-to-day RCC operations for adherence to the technical specifications and good international practice for RCC;
• Ensure appropriate RCC batching, transportation, placement, surface preparation, compaction, curing/protection and strength testing; and
• Ensure that appropriate testing occurs throughout the RCC placement including in-place density testing, temperature monitoring, cylinder preparation, and compressive strength testing, among others.
