This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this department. GENERAL DUTIES

  • Quality:
    - Promotes service line high reliability through promotion of patient safety, collegial interaction, case presentations, emergency simulation and standardization of key clinical practices.
    - Establishes a service line performance improvement plan incorporating metrics to monitor structure, process and outcomes.
    - Monitors metrics and implements actions to proactively promote evidence based best practice and resolve deficiencies.
    - Incorporates national professional standards and guidelines into service line practice, order sets and policies/procedures.
    - Incorporates routine audits to evaluate service line and individual competence in various aspects of clinical care and regulatory compliance, into the service line performance improvement plan.
    - Develops tools and educational programs to improve clinical expertise, quality, patient safety and regulatory compliance.
    - Maintains a focus on patient safety for all unit operations and clinical practices.
  • People:
    - Ensures all service line care providers and unit practices adhere to national professional standards, principles of patient safety and regulatory guidelines.
    - Designs, coordinates, facilitates and educates staff on interdisciplinary activities to continually improve quality, safety and regulatory compliance across the service line.
  • Service:
    - Serves as a mentor for team members regarding professional practice, clinical growth and certification.
    - Serves as a subject matter expert in clinical practice and professional guidelines.
    - Develops and presents unit-specific educational offerings.
    - Responsible for formulation of tools, reports and presentations to ensure service line compliance with professional standards, quality and patient safety and regulatory compliance as well as developmental plans for staff identified needs.
    - Works in collaboration with leaders to identify priorities and to communicate status updates regarding service line performance metrics and resolve deficiencies.
    - Collaborates with leaders to assure successful integration of performance improvement tools and team facilitation in achieving service line excellence.


EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2 years of nursing experience in service line required.
  • 2 years of education and/or accreditation experience preferred.


EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Employees or candidates must have either one of these: Bachelor's in nursing (BSN) or Master's Degree in healthcare-related field, or Associate Degree in Nursing.


LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Current license to practice as a registered nurse
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

  • SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Robust knowledge of performance improvement techniques to facilitate outcomes management and service line excellence.
  • Demonstrates effective teaching skills, utilizes principles of adult learning and is committed to mentorship within the service line.
  • Experience in performing oversight activities or quality assurance required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to pay close attention to detail required.
  • Must have a track record of producing work that is highly accurate, demonstrates attention to detail and reflects well on the organization.
  • Computer experience should include Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook at the intermediate level, at a minimum.
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt to frequently changing standards and priorities.
  • High degree of independence, flexibility, initiative and commitment.
  • Must demonstrate strong customer service orientation.
  • Experience with e-learning, Cerner and Simulation preferred.
