Über diese Research Fellow (Tropical Ecosystem Monitoring and Simulations) Stelle bei Nanyang Technological University
ASE is a diverse school focusing on the connections between geosciences, ecology, society and Earth systems. Our approach integrates these disciplines to examine big environmental challenges both in Southeast Asia and globally. We conduct cutting-edge research on topics that include ecology, geohazards, climate change, sea-level rise, environmental sustainability, conservation of environment and biodiversity, and interactions between environment and society. The Yanyan Cheng research group is seeking a Research Fellow. This position is part of a Singapore NRF funded research project hosted by ASE. The Research Fellow will help advance research in Earth system modeling and understand interactions among land, water, carbon, energy, atmosphere, ecosystems, and human systems.
This is a one-year appointment and potentially renewable based on performance and funding availability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect, validate, and harmonize field and remote sensing imagery for ecosystem monitoring.
- Develop machine/deep learning-based workflows to interpret ecosystem disturbance.
- Synthesize model simulations and multi-source observations to diagnose how the atmosphere responds to changes in land surface properties and the associated land–atmosphere feedback. properties and the associated land–atmosphere feedback.
- Participate in mentoring RAs and students at ASE.
Job Requirements:
- A PhD in physical geography, remote sensing, and ecology.
- Preferably with several years of relevant experience in ecosystem monitoring, and the design of manipulation experiments, development of diagnosis frameworks (e.g., knowledge-guided machine learning, casual inference, and Bayesian neural networks), evaluation of simulation results (e.g., climate extremes and precipitation patterns, land-atmospheric interactions), analysis of the mechanisms behind model improvements and climate projections.
- Should be familiar with remote sensing data processing from multiple platforms (satellite, airborne, and ground) and sensors (optical, radar, and lidar).
- Should be familiar with tropical climate and environmental studies.
- Should have advanced programming skills in Python, as well as proficiency in other programming languages such as R, NCL, and MATLAB.
- Should have proficiency in scientific computing, high-performance computing (HPC), and scripting (e.g., Bash, CDO/NCO).
- Should have strong quantitative and analytical skills in working with climate model datasets and observational datasets.
- As the position requires stakeholder engagement in English, candidate should have good written and oral communication skills in English.
- Candidate should have published scientific papers in high-quality research journals.
- Should be enthusiastic in research, and have good spirit in teamwork and collaboration.
ASE seeks a diverse and inclusive workforce and is committed to equality of opportunity. We welcome applications from all and recruit on the basis of merit, regardless of age, race, gender, religion, marital status and family responsibilities, or disability.
