Job details and application process:

Applications will be accepted until 11:59 pm on October 16, 2026. The anticipated start date is November 1, 2026. This initial appointment is for a one-year term at 40 hours per week, with possibility of extension subject to work performance and available funding. The starting salary is $95,000 per annum.

Research Associate

 

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver campus, is seeking a full-time Research Associate to join the laboratory of Professor Robert Rohling. This position will involve research on the design, fabrication and testing of novel ultrasound devices.

 

The Research Associate will work on the computer simulation of new ultrasound transducers, optimization of performance parameters, design of real-time ultrasound devices, testing, and data analysis of ultrasound signals on both medical and non-medical applications. 

 

Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Conducting research on capacitive micromachined ultrasound transducers and their associated electronics
  • Modeling with finite-element analysis software and acoustic simulation software
  • Establishing design criteria in collaboration with end-users
  • Optimizing performance to meet end-users’ requirements
  • Fabrication of complete ultrasound devices
  • Testing ultrasound devices on relative materials, including in calibrated water baths and tissue-mimicking materials
  • Acquiring acoustic data and developing data analysis algorithms
  • Mentoring students in design, fabrication and testing of ultrasound devices
  • Preparing documentation and publications in journals and conferences
  • Preparing presentations and meeting with end-user stakeholders
  • Helping with grant funding proposals and reports

 

Minimum Requirements:

     Doctorate degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering

     At least three years of postdoctoral training in a relevant discipline

     An excellent publication record, with multiple first-author and co-authored publications in relevant fields
