Regulatory Counsel  

Wotton-under-Edge/Hybrid working (office based a minimum of 3 days a week, 45 minutes from Bristol and Cheltenham)

Up to £70,000 depending on experience

We are currently recruiting for a Regulatory Counsel or Regulatory Compliance Officer at our UK head office to become part of our global legal, compliance and secretarial team (“L&S”). 

Person specification

As part of the L&S team, you will play a key role in helping the business understand and meet complex and evolving regulatory obligations, with a particular focus on cyber security and product-related compliance. You will provide pragmatic advice and support the development of proportionate compliance frameworks, while supporting our core values of Innovation, Inspiration, Integrity and Involvement.

You will be confident working with legal, technical and commercial stakeholders, translating regulatory requirements into clear and practical actions, influencing adoption by the wider organisation, and monitoring ongoing compliance.

Key responsibilities 

• Carry out regulatory horizon scanning for new and emerging compliance requirements and corresponding guidance from authorities in the UK, EU and other key jurisdictions.
• Advise on the interpretation of relevant legislation such as NIS2 and the Cyber Resilience Act.
• Work closely with stakeholders to translate regulatory requirements into proportionate compliance frameworks.
• Create, maintain and improve templates, playbooks, policies, procedures, training materials and other know-how to support those frameworks.
• Respond to customer due diligence questions on regulatory topics.
• Provide pragmatic, risk-based advice on complex regulatory issues, balancing legal requirements, customer expectations and operational challenges.
• Manage external specialist counsel where required, including for jurisdiction-specific regulatory advice.
• Contribute to the growth of the L&S team by supervising and supporting the development of junior colleagues.
• Support or lead (as applicable) internal L&S projects and process improvement initiatives.
• Support other L&S activities during busy periods.

Key requirements

• Regulatory counsel or compliance officer with at least 3 years’ experience advising on, interpreting, and implementing regulatory frameworks in a practical business context.
• A good working understanding of product compliance, software development, and vulnerability handling.
• Good understanding of cyber security and resilience practices and relevant legislation including the Cyber Resilience Act and NIS2.
• Excellent attention to detail, legal research and drafting skills, with the ability to produce clear policies, procedures, briefings and stakeholder communications.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to apply complex or emerging regulatory requirements to real-world products, systems and processes.
• Commercial awareness and the confidence to provide pragmatic, risk-based advice to legal, technical and commercial stakeholders.
• An ability to build effective relationships and influence people at all levels of the business, including specialist technical teams.
• Experience supporting cross-functional implementation projects, including coordinating input from legal, technical, commercial and operational stakeholders.
• Impeccable integrity, a ‘can do’ attitude, and a willingness and ability to lead by example.
• An appetite to learn continually and share your experience and knowledge with colleagues.

Desirable

Experience in any other compliance areas, such as anti-bribery and corruption, data protection, or competition, would also be helpful but is not essential.
