Title: Regional Clinical Trainer 
Practice: Oral Surgery Partners 

Position Purpose:

The Regional Clinical Trainer is responsible for strengthening the skills, consistency, and performance of surgical assistants and back-office clinical teams across the region. This role provides hands-on instruction, structured new-hire onboarding, ongoing employee development, competency assessment, and clinical coaching to promote safe, efficient, and consistent clinical practices.

This is a 100% travel-based position with no designated home office or primary practice location. The Regional Clinical Trainer will travel to assigned practices based on training and operational needs and may provide temporary clinical support during staffing shortages, leaves of absence, new provider ramp-ups, or other circumstances that could impact patient care or provider schedules.

Essential Functions:

Clinical Training & Development

  • Provide hands-on training and coaching to new and existing surgical assistants throughout the region.
  • Train team members on oral surgery clinical workflows, surgical assisting techniques, room setup and breakdown, patient preparation, and postoperative processes.
  • Provide training related to general anesthesia workflows, patient monitoring, emergency preparedness, and clinical safety within the employee's permitted scope of practice.
  • Reinforce proper infection control, sterilization, clinical documentation, and safety protocols.
  • Identify individual training gaps and provide focused coaching and development to address identified needs.
  • Evaluate employee progress, document completion of established clinical competencies, and provide ongoing feedback to support independent performance.
  • Reinforce consistent clinical expectations and best practices across practices within the region.

New-Hire Training & Onboarding

  • Partner with the Regional Director of Operations and local practice leadership to develop and maintain a standardized surgical assistant onboarding program.
  • Establish clear training expectations and competencies for each stage of a new surgical assistant's development.
  • Provide dedicated hands-on training to new employees to support a consistent and effective onboarding experience.
  • Regularly evaluate new-hire progress and communicate training status, strengths, concerns, and additional development needs to appropriate leadership.
  • Support new employees in becoming prepared, confident, and independently competent in their responsibilities.
  • Identify and address training or support concerns early to improve new-hire retention and reduce time to independent clinical competency.

Regional Clinical Support

  • Serve as a regional clinical resource for surgical assistants, managers, and practice leadership.
  • Travel to practices requiring additional training, employee development, or operational support.
  • Provide temporary surgical assistant coverage, when training responsibilities allow, for PTO, leaves of absence, vacancies, unexpected staffing shortages, and other operational needs.
  • Provide clinical support during new surgeon onboarding and provider ramp-ups.
  • Help protect provider schedules and patient capacity by supporting practices when clinical staffing needs could impact operations.
  • Assist practices with improving back-office workflows, clinical efficiency, organization, and consistency.

Training Program Development & Standardization

  • Assist in developing and maintaining standardized surgical assistant training materials, competency checklists, and onboarding expectations.
  • Identify differences in clinical processes between practices and partner with regional and local leadership to improve consistency where appropriate.
  • Evaluate training needs throughout the region and recommend opportunities for additional education or process improvement.
  • Help establish sustainable training processes that support continued hiring, practice growth, and new provider onboarding.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of employee training and competency completion.
  • Participate in continuing education and designated training programs, including DAANCE training as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • DAANCE certification preferred; willingness to complete DAANCE training as assigned.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required for regional travel.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as a surgical assistant within oral and maxillofacial surgery required.
  • 5+ years of experience assisting with IV sedation and/or general anesthesia procedures required.
  • 3+ years of experience training, mentoring, or onboarding surgical assistants preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience supporting new practice openings, new surgeon onboarding, or provider ramp-ups preferred.

Performance Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of oral surgery procedures, surgical assisting techniques, and clinical workflows.
  • Strong understanding of patient monitoring, emergency preparedness, infection control, sterilization, and clinical safety procedures.
  • Ability to teach clinical skills in a clear, patient, and supportive manner.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to objectively assess employee competency, provide clear and constructive feedback, and reinforce clinical expectations through effective coaching.
  • Ability to adapt training and communication styles to meet the needs of different employees, providers, and practice environments.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage changing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication with regional and practice leadership.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment and adapt to the needs of multiple practices.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 100% of the time, including frequent overnight travel, required.

Travel Requirements:

  • This is a 100% travel-based regional position and does not have a designated home office or primary practice location.
  • The Regional Clinical Trainer will travel between assigned practices based on new-hire training needs, staffing support, practice priorities, and other operational requirements.
  • Frequent overnight travel is required based on the location and duration of assignments.
  • Business mileage will be reimbursed in accordance with company policy, and approved hotel accommodations will be provided for required overnight travel.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule and travel to different practice locations based on business needs is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • This position requires the ability to perform the physical responsibilities associated with surgical assisting in an oral surgery environment, including standing for extended periods, assisting during surgical procedures, moving throughout clinical areas, and performing other physical duties required of the surgical assistant role.

Work Environment/Conditions:

  • Fast-paced oral surgery and clinical office environment.
  • Regular travel between assigned practices is required.
  • Schedule flexibility may be required based on training assignments, staffing needs, and operational priorities.
  • Safety procedures and appropriate personal protective equipment are required in accordance with company policies and regulatory standards.
