Summary of the Role
The Associate Director, Portfolio Planning & Marketing is a strategic, high-impact role at the intersection of commercial strategy, portfolio management, and market development. Responsible for driving the growth and long-term evolution of Terumo’s Cardiovascular & Aortic portfolio across Asia Pacific, this role ensures the portfolio remains aligned with regional healthcare needs, market dynamics and business priorities. In addition, the role leads the development and execution of the regional Aortic marketing strategy to accelerate business growth, strengthen market positioning and expand clinical adoption. The role demands strong business acumen, a deep understanding of the cardiovascular & aortic landscape, and the ability to translate market insights into actionable portfolio and commercial strategies.
Key Responsibilities
1. Market Competitive Insights & Opportunity Assessment
- Own APAC competitive intelligence and market research, including customer insights, procedure trends, unmet clinical needs, adoption barriers, and economic value drivers
- Monitor competitive activities, emerging technologies, and market trends to identify strategic threats, market disruptions, and untapped growth opportunities across APAC
- Lead comprehensive portfolio assessment covering lifecycle management, portfolio gap analysis, cannibalization risks evaluation, and prioritization of growth opportunities across markets
- Proactively identify new products, technologies, therapies and business models that can contribute to sustainable business growth
2. Portfolio Strategy, Planning & Management
- Develop and own the multi-year APAC portfolio strategy for Cardiovascular & Aortic categories, aligned with regional market dynamics, customer needs and global strategic priorities
- Define portfolio positioning strategies by customer segment, clinical pathway, healthcare setting, and market maturity to maximize commercial impact and clinical adoption
- Partner with regional and global stakeholders to influence product roadmap and portfolio investment priorities
- Assess the impact of regulatory developments, reimbursement changes, and healthcare policy shifts on portfolio performance and recommend appropriate strategic responses
3. Business Development & Strategic Partnership
- Identify and evaluate strategic partnerships, licensing opportunities, distributor agreements, co-development arrangements, and market-entry strategies that align with business objectives
- Develop robust business cases, financial models and investment proposals for new market entry, portfolio expansion, new product launches and business development initiatives
- Provide strategic recommendations to regional leadership based on market opportunities, competitive dynamics and long-term growth potential
- Work cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, Regulatory, Quality, Medical Affairs, Supply Chain and Commercial team during due diligence
- Support commercial negotiations, partnership structure development and transition from opportunity evaluation to execution
- Facilitate the transition from opportunity assessment and business case development to commercialization and operational implementation
4. Regional Marketing & Growth Strategy Development
- Develop and lead the regional marketing strategy and aligned with regional commercial objectives for the Terumo Aortic business
- Identify key growth drivers, market barriers, and strategic opportunities across countries to accelerate business performance across the region
- Define regional customer segmentation, targeting, positioning, and value propositions that enhance customer engagement and market penetration
- Serve as a key regional interface between the global marketing team and country commercial organizations, ensuring strategic alignment and effective resource deployment for the aortic business
- Partner with country sales and marketing teams to translate regional marketing strategies into actionable country go-to-market plans, campaigns and growth initiatives
- Build scalable regional programs that can be adapted effectively and implemented across multiple markets
- Partner with commercial leadership to develop annual operating plans and long-range strategic plans
- Monitor marketing effectiveness, business performance, and return on investment to optimize resource allocation and maximize commercial outcomes
5. Strategic Customer & KOL Engagement
- Develop regional KOL and strategic customer engagement strategies aligned with business priorities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with leading clinicians/surgeons, institutions, and societies to drive therapy adoption and business growth
- Partner with Medical Affairs to establish advisory boards and structured Voice-of-Customer programs that generate actionable insights
- Leverage customer and KOL feedback to inform portfolio strategy, product development priorities, evidence generation and marketing initiatives
6. Marketing Excellence & Capability Development
- Establish marketing excellence standards and frameworks across the region
- Promote data-driven decision-making, digital capabilities, and appropriate use of AI and emerging technologies within marketing
- Develop regional marketing capabilities in areas including strategic planning, segmentation, positioning, portfolio management and commercialization
- Coach and develop regional and country marketing talent

Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Business, or a related discipline
- Minimum 8-10 years of progressive experience in the cardiovascular, aortic, or medtech industry, with demonstrated expertise in portfolio management, business development, and/or marketing
- Demonstrated background in cardiovascular devices or capital equipment
- Experience working in or closely with Asia Pacific markets
- Experience collaborating with multiple stakeholders, including commercial, regulatory, finance, supply chain, medical affairs, clinical and global product management teams
- Strong communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills, including experience presenting to senior leadership
