Über diese R&D Process Technician/Engineer - 1 Year Fixed Term Stelle bei Factorial Energy
Who We Are
Factorial Energy is a pioneering U.S.-based solid-state battery company driving the future of energy storage and electrification. Partnered with global leaders including Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, Hyundai, and Kia, Factorial is at the forefront of developing next-generation e-mobility platforms for commercial, defense, and consumer applications—spanning electric vehicles (EVs), drones, eVTOL aircraft, power tools, marine systems, robotics, and more. The company has achieved multiple industry firsts, including being the first to power a demonstration vehicle with a global OEM (Mercedes- Benz) which achieved over 1,200 km (749 mi) of range, and the first to earn UN 38.3 certification for automotive-sized lithium-metal solid-state cells, the first to deliver B-samples of automotive-sized solid-state batteries to major OEMs.
The Opportunity:
Factorial Energy is seeking a R&D Process Technician or Engineer to join our team in our Billerica MA location. This person will be responsible for bridging the gap between benchtop R&D and pilot-line production of Factorial Energy’s next generation solid state batteries. The Ideal candidate will have a background in material chemistry or related field, have an understanding of process-material relationships, comfortable operating a range of processing and material characterization equipment, and a desire to gain hands on experience in the solid-state battery field.
In this role, you will:
- Execute coating formulations and scale up material production from laboratory scale to multi-kilogram quantities.
- Set up, operate, and maintain specialized powder processing hardware and utilize air-sensitive chemical techniques.
- Serve as a central resource for material characterization, regularly operating and interpreting data from SEM, EDX, XRD, DSC, and FT-IR.
- Cross-train across the solid-state fabrication line, supporting anode/cathode preparation, separator production, and small cell assembly and testing.
- Maintain meticulous data logs, high standards of laboratory cleanliness, and strict adherence to chemical safety protocols.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary R&D teams to troubleshoot and improve process consistency.
We are looking for people who:
- MS or BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
- Strong comfort level operating complex, non-standard laboratory processing equipment.
- Hands-on experience or solid theoretical understanding of material characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, XRD, DSC, FT-IR).
- Demonstrated understanding of process-structure-property relationships and a desire to scale benchtop processes.
- Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a "clean-as-you-go" laboratory approach.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team setting as well as function independently.
- Adaptable mindset with a strong eagerness to learn new battery fabrication techniques over time.
Nice to have Qualifications:
- Prior experience with powder processing, particle coating, or chemical scale-up techniques.
- Experience working in inert processing environments (e.g., gloveboxes or dry rooms) or with air-sensitive materials.
- Familiarity with battery technologies, solid electrolytes, or energy storage materials.
- Experience organizing, plotting, and presenting material characterization datasets to cross-functional teams.
Some of our competitive benefits include:
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Generous paid time off
- 401(k) plan that includes employer matching funds
- Education assistance plan
- Life insurance and disability coverage
Salary Range (MA role only): $65k-85k
