Quantum Software Engineer

The Purpose

As a Quantum Software Engineer, you'll turn quantum algorithms and research prototypes into robust, production-quality software. You'll bridge the gap between quantum research and classical engineering, building the software foundations that allow quantum workloads to be integrated, compiled, executed, tested and operated reliably as part of larger applications.

The Role

Based in London, you'll work across the quantum and classical software stack, partnering with quantum algorithm specialists, platform engineers, infrastructure teams and application developers.

You'll take promising quantum use cases beyond the research prototype—building reusable software components, integrating them with production infrastructure and solving problems across the full execution path, from application code and circuit compilation through to simulators and QPUs.

This is a role for an engineer who understands quantum computing but thinks like a software engineer: maintainability, testing, reliability and production readiness matter just as much as getting the algorithm to run.

What You'll Be Working On

• Build production-quality quantum software components and reusable application functions that can be integrated into wider products and platforms.
• Translate quantum algorithms and research prototypes into robust, tested and maintainable production software.
• Integrate quantum workloads with APIs, containerised services, Kubeflow workflows, data services and application execution infrastructure.
• Diagnose complex issues across the full execution path—from Python and application code through circuit compilation, simulation and QPU execution.
• Shape technical designs for quantum execution workflows, compilation, runtime integration and hybrid classical-quantum applications.
• Apply strong software engineering practices across automated testing, CI/CD, documentation, version control, code review and maintainable design.
• Collaborate across Quantum Algorithms, Platform, Infrastructure and Applications teams to take quantum use cases from concept through to reliable production deployment.

What We're Looking For

• Experience as a quantum software engineer, backed by strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building production-quality software.
• Hands-on experience with modern engineering practices including CI/CD, automated testing, code review, version control and Agile/Scrum development.
• Good understanding of quantum computing concepts, including quantum circuits and how parameterised circuits are transpiled and compiled for execution.
• Familiarity with commonly used quantum algorithms and the ability to translate algorithmic concepts into practical software components and workflows.
• Confidence working across quantum and classical software stacks and bridging the needs of quantum specialists and classical software engineers.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate issues across multiple layers of a complex software and execution stack.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain quantum concepts clearly to technical stakeholders with different levels of quantum expertise.
• Degree or equivalent practical experience in Quantum Computing, Computer Science, Physics or a related discipline.

The 'Nice-to-Haves'

• Experience developing quantum computing applications for financial services.
• Familiarity with regulated enterprise environments and evidence-led product development.
• Experience taking quantum research software from prototype into repeatable production engineering workflows.
• Experience with containerised services, workflow orchestration or production data infrastructure.
• A pragmatic, curious approach and comfort working in a fast-evolving technical environment.
• A relevant professional or postgraduate qualification.
