About the role
We're looking for a Project Manager & Financial Controller to lead Atomic's highest-priority cross-functional projects, starting with our expansion into Europe, and help ensure the integrity of Atomic's books and financial operations across a growing number of entities and product lines. You'll report directly to the CFO, and to the Financial and Operations Principal (FinOp) on broker-dealer work, and coordinate with leadership across finance, compliance, legal, and operations.
As our first project manager, you'll build the project management function from the ground up, managing company-wide projects while building finance processes in some areas and strengthening them in others. In your first year, you'll also back up treasury, support risk and controls work, and support tax reporting as we quickly ramp up and build out processes and teams covering those areas.
Atomic is a remote-first company, and this role is fully remote; however, candidates must be based in the US or LATAM in the Americas Timezone (GMT-4 to GMT-8).
Key Responsibilities
Lead major cross-functional projects through completion, including Atomic's expansion into Europe, managing workstreams, owners, timelines, and requests from regulators and outside counsel.
Build the project management function as the initial hire, including intake, prioritization, templates, and status reporting standards.
Plan and run additional projects across finance, compliance, legal, and operations, from scoping through delivery.
Maintain a company-wide view of project timelines, dependencies, risks, and resource needs, and escalate issues early.
Prepare clear status updates for leadership and run effective project meetings.
Take on core controllership responsibilities based on your experience, such as owning the accounting books for the technology and RIA entities, running the consolidated month-end close, or overseeing corporate tax compliance with the FinOp and external tax advisors.
Propose, design, and implement projects to shorten and improve the month-end close process, using NetSuite and other systems. Move work into pre-close activities throughout the month, and leverage automated functionality available within existing systems, to immediately shorten the close.
Enhance and develop consolidated accounting policies and controls appropriate for a fintech environment, across existing and new products and entities.
Prepare the company for a consolidated audit in 12–24 months.
Back up the CFO on treasury: cash positioning, payment approvals, bank relationships, and the cash runway forecast.
Partner with key stakeholders across finance, compliance, legal, operations, and engineering leadership.
Qualifications
3–5 years of project management experience leading cross-functional projects, with a track record of delivering complex initiatives on scope and on time
Experience managing regulatory, licensing, or market expansion projects in financial services
Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., Jira, Asana, monday.com, or similar)
Meaningful finance and accounting experience in fintech, banking, brokerage, or RIA environments
Comfort navigating regulated multi-entity structures, including international subsidiaries
Working knowledge of US corporate tax compliance and experience working with external tax advisors
Hands-on treasury and cash management experience, and a working understanding of internal controls
Basic knowledge of IFRS, sufficient to supervise EU-based accountants
Proficiency in NetSuite or comparable enterprise ERP systems
Advanced-level English for cross-team collaboration
Nice to Have
PMP, CAPM, or similar project management certification
Active CPA license and/or self-regulatory agency licenses (ex FINRA). CPA will be needed by March 2028.
Subject-matter expertise in SOX frameworks
International tax experience, especially with EU-US holding structures
