Position Summary and Qualifications:

The Program Specialist supports the mission of the Office of Inclusive Excellence by overseeing and managing programming for the Center for Inclusion and Diversity (CID) and the Cura Collective (CC) across University locations, as well as maintaining the Office’s efforts to build a sense of belonging and maintain an inclusive campus environment. This position collaborates with students, faculty, staff, and alumni to create programs, events, activities, and learning opportunities in a team-based environment toward the goal of facilitating belonging, development, learning, and engagement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop a comprehensive programming calendar that encourages community involvement and outreach for the University community.

  • Provide programming and advising support to the student organizations for affinity populations that are funded by the Student Budget Allocated Committee (SBAC).

  • Lead, plan, facilitate, and oversee student-centered events including the annual Center for Inclusion and Diversity Retreat, movie nights, heritage month activities, Taste of the World, Kwanzaa Celebration, Senior Celebrations, and others that may arise.

  • Create and maintain marketing, outreach, and social media presence for the Center for Inclusion and Diversity; support and update the OIE website as needed.

  • Process invoices, monitor budgets, and assist in tracking and reporting expenses.

  • Collaborate with partners across University locations and represent the Office of Inclusive Excellence at Admissions Events, programming, training, Department presentations, panels, and other events as needed.

  • Assist with outreach, professional mentoring, advocacy support, and resource referrals for students with underrepresented and under-resourced identities to increase persistence to graduation.

  • Assist with events and activities to support diverse student learning, retention, and belonging, including the Running Start Program, Cura Collective programs, and our contributions to New Student Orientation.

  • Serve as an active member of standing committees and ad hoc committees that address inclusive excellence, including Day of Dialogue.

  • Support the hiring, training, and supervision of the CID and CC federal work study employees.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The person who holds this position has been classified as a Campus Security Authority under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act).

  • Attend and contribute to OIEIE Team meetings and planning workshops.

  • Liaise with the Tri-Alpha First Generation Honor Society advisor(s).

  • Support work in other areas of the OIEIE.

  • Partner and work closely with various university offices and departments.

  • Support the assessment and evaluation of student participation and professional development.

  • Represent the Office of Inclusive Excellence at some evening/weekend events.

  • Serve on university-wide and student life committees as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

Minimum Qualifications (Education/Training and Experience):

Required

  • Basic knowledge and conversant understanding of inclusive excellence and student development trends, topics, and initiatives in educational settings.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student body.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently as well as closely with team members to achieve goals.

  • Effective verbal, written, interpersonal, and public speaking communication skills across settings and stakeholders, including diverse constituents both internally and externally.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively evaluate details.

  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Proficient with Google Suite and web-based software (e.g., Drupal).

  • Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent and relevant professional experience.

Preferred

  • General understanding of laws relating to equal opportunity, affirmative action, discrimination, and harassment relating to faculty, staff, and students.

  • Demonstrated commitment to institutional effectiveness, inclusive excellence, and supporting the University Mission.

  • Skills in planning, organizing, and managing funds, including fiscally responsible spending, and analyzing trends.

  • Knowledge of Banner and Cognos preferred.

Physical Requirements &/or Unusual Work Hours:

  • Ability and willingness to work occasional weekend and evening hours.

  • Ability to move about campus.

Pay Transparancy:
