The Program Coordinator, School of Phlebotomy directs the planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating of the phlebotomy program on a daily basis. Maintains program standards & activities to ensure expected outcomes. Organizes program assignments, analysis of outcomes, and academic reports as assigned.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create a positive atmosphere in the campus & clinical laboratory and the phlebotomy program that fosters student learning and development.  Serves as a professional role model for students & staff.

  • Implements the philosophy, mission, vision, and values as well as executes the design, implementation, and evaluation processes of the phlebotomy program in collaboration with the faculty and the Director.

  • Implements the “Systematic Plan for Evaluation & Assessment of Outcomes” in collaboration with the faculty and Director.

  • Responsible for the daily operations of the school of phlebotomy program to include space requirement scheduling, etc.

  • Responsible for designing, coordinating, implementing and ongoing management of the program application and student registration processes.

  •  Support preparation, implementation & management of the phlebotomy program, conceptual framework, and instructional plan as needed.

  • Promotes academic policy supportive to students and faculty; escalation focal as defined in school of phlebotomy handbook; manages student disciplinary actions and escalates to Director as needed.

  • Recruits for, and orients, new students to School of Phlebotomy

  • Student support focal (non-classroom/clinicals related) for full lifecycle of student (pre-program paperwork requirements through badging/system access, program start, & through completion)

  • Coordinates, in collaboration with Instructor (and Director as needed) all aspects of curriculum, including placement of students for classroom and clinical practice within the St Luke’s Health Network, to meet program requirements.  Ensure engagement of/communication to Outpatient Lab Regional Managers related to clinical externship assignments, changes, schedules, etc.

  • Collaborates with Student Services for maximum effectiveness of student programs.

  • Represents the School of Phlebotomy in a positive manner to the internal and external community.  Participates in activities promoting the phlebotomy program and school.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Continuously maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, or running. Continuously ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like using feet/legs and/or hands/arms. Rarely moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet. Rarely bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine. Continuously picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm as in gross manipulation. Continuously use of one or both feet or legs to move controls on machinery or equipment. Rarely seizing, holding, grasping, turning or otherwise working with hand(s).  Continuously entering text or data into a computer or other machine by means of a keyboard.  Frequently bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee(s). Occasionally extending hand and arms in any direction. Frequently remain in a seated position. Frequently standing is to remain on one's feet in an upright position. Continuously bending or turning, generally to a side. Continuously walking is to move about on foot. 

EDUCATION:

BA/BS degree or MLT equivalent required. Graduate of an accredited allied healthcare program or an allied healthcare course of study or hold professional certification in Phlebotomy from a nationally recognized certification organization preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 2 years experience in administrative/management experience directing program initiatives/activities enabling expected program outcomes/deliverables required. Minimum of 2 years educational administrative/management experience preferred. Minimum of 3 years of Phlebotomy experience preferred.  Demonstrated competence and effectiveness as a professional phlebotomist in full time environment preferred. Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office & Windows applications required. Strong experience with developing & providing verbal and written communications for recipients of varying education levels (students, families, SLUHN management levels, external agencies, etc) required. Evidence of at least two years teaching experience in a healthcare-related field in past 5 years preferred. Experience with a learning management system such as CANVAS, Blackboard, etc. preferred. Maintenance of certified phlebotomy competency preferred.
