What Contract Manufacturing Engineering contributes to Cardinal Health

At Cardinal Health, Contract Manufacturing Engineering serves as the technical bridge between product development, quality, regulatory, supply chain, and our global contract manufacturing network. This team plays a vital role in ensuring product quality, supply continuity, cost competitiveness, and manufacturing excellence throughout the product lifecycle.

As a Contract Manufacturing Principal Engineer, you will be the primary technical leader responsible for managing strategic contract manufacturing partners supporting ECG Cables, Lead Wires, ECG Electrodes, Wound Drain products, and other medical device portfolios. You will drive supplier performance, manufacturing readiness, process improvements, risk mitigation, and business continuity initiatives while ensuring compliance with Cardinal Health and regulatory requirements.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work across global cross-functional teams, influence supplier strategy, lead complex manufacturing projects, and develop into a recognized technical leader within a growing international medical device organization.

Accountabilities

  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for assigned contract manufacturers in China and Asia Pacific.
  • Manage metrics targets with CMs; evaluate CM’s service, delivery, quality, compliance, and cost performance
  • Establish robust tracking and reporting process, working cross functionally to ensure compliance with internal/external audit observation deadline or other regulatory commitments and monitor performance
  • Act as CAH’s expert in managing technical, operational and logistical aspects of assigned projects and/or processes from initiation through commercialization, including product transfer activities, new product development activities, supplier change request and internal change management.
  • Coordinates process audits, supplier audits and 3rd party inspections; provide on-site support for 3rd party inspections
  • Support preparation of periodic business and operations review meetings
  • Analyze and support action required for key performance indicators through a balanced scorecard, business and operation reviews and continuous improvements across the region’s supply chain operation
  • Managing internal and CM’s assets that related to our products, such as raise capital request, create business case as well as ensure the traceability of all the assets belong to CAH.
  • Host regular weekly and monthly meeting with CMs to ensure close monitoring operational activities.
  • Escalate risks and tactical operational issues with CMs and CAH
  • Lead problem solving on production assurance, scheduling, and replanning
  • Lead / coordinate CM’s capability building, product changes / introduction / exit and corrective actions
  • Take on program manager role for new product launch / supplier onboarding driving successful design transfer and commercial prove-out with cross-functional teams
  • Frequent travel visiting critical CMs on-site; regular on-site presence for others; requires approximately 50% travel within APAC

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field preferred, with preference for Biomedical, Mechatronics,  Manufacturing engineering or related disciplines
  • At least 6+ years related work experience required in regulated industries, preference for medical devices, including experience managing contract manufacturers
  • Preference for experience in ECG-related products, patient monitoring accessories, or wound care products
  • Ability to lead cross functional teams toward operational objectives with effective communication across engineering, quality, operations, and suppliers
  • Aptitude to contribute to strategic goal setting for department/business unit
  • Ability to travel approximately 50% of the time
  • Preferred certifications: Lean Six Sigma, PMP, etc.
