Summary of Role:

GlobalFoundries is seeking a new college graduate to join the Device Engineering team as a Silicon Photonics Compact Modeling Engineer. This role will develop, validate, document, and support production-quality compact models for silicon photonic devices used in advanced Process Design Kits, working with technology development, characterization, design enablement, and EDA teams to enable accurate simulation and customer design success. 

Essential Responsibilities include:

• Develop and maintain compact models for silicon photonic devices; perform parameter extraction and model calibration using DC, RF/S-parameter, optical, and transient measurement data; and correlate model behavior with measured silicon and simulation targets.

• Support model quality assurance and release readiness by developing testbenches, regression methodologies, validation reports, and robust checks for accuracy, stability, runtime efficiency, and usability across operating conditions and model releases. 

• Contribute to Process Design Kit development, documentation, verification, and release activities; support integration of models into customer design flows and EDA platforms; and help resolve model, simulation, and usage issues with internal teams, EDA partners, and customers.

• Collaborate with device engineering, characterization, process integration, and design enablement teams to understand device behavior and modeling requirements; develop automation and scripting solutions that improve parameter extraction, validation, reporting, and modeling workflow efficiency.

• Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.

Required Qualifications:

• Education – Graduating with Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, Optics or related field from an accredited degree program. 

• Must have at least an overall 3.0 GPA and proven good academic standing.

• Language Fluency - English (Written & Verbal) 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Prior related internship or co-op experience.

• Demonstrated prior leadership experience in the workplace, school projects, competitions, etc.

• Strong interest in leveraging AI tools and emerging technologies to enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and support effective decision-making.

• Project management skills, i.e. the ability to innovate and execute solutions that matter; the ability to navigate ambiguity. 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills 

• Strong planning & organizational skills

• Coursework, research, internship, or project experience in semiconductor or photonic device physics, compact-model development, parameter extraction, device characterization, numerical modeling, or validation using measured data. 

• Programming or modeling experience with Python, MATLAB, Verilog-A, C/C++, or similar tools and familiarity with photonic, RF, or mixed-signal EDA environments such as Cadence, Synopsys, ADS, Luceda, or equivalent platforms.
