About the Job
We are seeking a Principal Data Architect to serve as the senior technical authority across our most complex and strategic data engagements. This role goes beyond architecture delivery: you will shape how Caylent designs and evolves modern data platfo
Experience
- 10+ years in data architecture, data engineering, or closely related technical disciplines
- 5+ years delivering cloud-based data solutions at enterprise scale
- Proven experience in a consulting or professional services environment, including embedded delivery inside a client or prime contractor program
- Proven track record in mentoring or leading technical teams
- 3+ years of hands-on Oracle APEX and Oracle REST Data Services (ORDS) delivery, including at least one production migration or upgrade of a multi-application APEX estate
Architecture Depth (strong across most of the following)
- End-to-end design of modern cloud-native data platforms, including lakehouse architectures (Delta Lake, Apache Iceberg, Apache Hudi), data mesh, and medallion patterns
- Database migration and modernization: legacy-to-cloud migrations, heterogeneous database migration strategies, schema and workload refactoring, and modernization to cloud-native data platforms
- Oracle APEX and ORDS migration and architecture: APEX application and workspace architecture, export/import and deployment across environments, version upgrades, ORDS deployment and configuration models (including Apache Tomcat hosting), and preserving existing application behavior when relocating an APEX estate to AWS
- Oracle Database (19c Enterprise Edition) depth: PL/SQL, schema design, performance tuning, database links, scheduled jobs, and awareness of licensed Enterprise Edition options that affect target configuration
- APEX dependency and plugin assessment: mapping database links, scheduled jobs, OS-level scripts, integrations, and identity dependencies, and assessing third-party APEX plugin compatibility on the target platform
- Cutover planning and resilience: migration sequencing across dev, test/UAT, and production, downtime-window management, rollback design, HA/DR patterns, and validation of application behavior after failover and recovery testing
- Hybrid integration: dependency and connectivity analysis where upstream and dependent systems remain on-premises or outside AWS, including latency and database link considerations
- Workload separation and compliance-aware design: logical separation of regulated (for example SOX-adjacent) and non-regulated workloads in architecture and configuration guidance
- Structured data: dimensional modeling, data warehouse design, OLTP/OLAP patterns, schema evolution
- Unstructured and semi-structured data: object storage design, metadata management, document and vector store patterns, and data cataloging strategies
- Real-time and event-driven architectures: streaming ingestion and processing (Apache Kafka, Amazon Kinesis, Apache Flink)
- Data serving and access layers: query federation, semantic modeling, and API-based data access patterns
- AI/ML platform readiness: feature stores, embedding pipelines, RAG infrastructure, and integration with model serving layers
AWS Expertise
- Deep, hands-on knowledge of the AWS data and analytics ecosystem: Amazon S3, AWS Glue, Amazon Redshift, Amazon Athena, Amazon EMR, AWS Lake Formation, Amazon Kinesis, AWS DMS, Amazon RDS/Aurora, Amazon OpenSearch, and Amazon Bedrock
- Hands-on experience hosting Oracle workloads on AWS (Amazon RDS for Oracle, Amazon EC2, container-based ORDS), and working alongside AWS DMS-based database migrations owned by another team
- Infrastructure-as-code practices (Terraform, AWS CDK) applied to data platform delivery, including CI/CD integration for APEX and ORDS deployment
- AWS security, networking, and FinOps principles as applied to data environments, including VPC design, load balancing, IAM, encryption, and identity integration (SSO) for APEX applications
Leadership and Presence
- Executive-level communication and stakeholder management skills
- Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and grow technical practitioners
- Comfortable owning technical decisions and defending them under scrutiny
- Experience driving alignment across cross-functional teams, including engineering, product, and business stakeholders
- Comfort with ambiguity and evolving discovery, with the discipline to work within SOW boundaries and flag scope, risk, and change-order triggers early
- Experience leading structured knowledge transfer to client teams
Language: Advanced English (minimum C1).
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect Professional, Data Analytics Specialty, Database Specialty, or equivalent) and Oracle certifications (APEX, OCP)
- Experience with platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, or dbt in enterprise settings, including data warehouse migrations adjacent to APEX estates
- Background in regulated industries (financial services, healthcare, higher education, or SOX-governed enterprises)
- Experience migrating from on-premises data centers to AWS under constrained-access models (VDI, restricted data center permissions)
- Experience contributing to or building a data architecture practice within a consulting organization

This role may require up to 25% travel, depending on business needs.
