Datadog's brand is entering a new chapter, and we're looking for a Principal, Brand Editorial to own and evolve how we sound. As the founding writer on a multidisciplinary team of designers, illustrators, motion artists, and producers, you'll shape the ideas and narratives that define how Datadog shows up in the world. You'll also build the systems, standards, and tools that help thousands of colleagues scale brand voice and the company. You'll go deep on how the products actually work, then turn that complexity into clear, powerful ideas. You'll pair exceptional craft with real conceptual ambition, and raise the bar on both.

What You'll Do:

• Define and evolve Datadog's writing style, tone, and point of view, setting a consistent quality bar across campaigns, events, web, video, social, product marketing, and other brand experiences.
• Concept and write high-impact brand work, including campaigns, videos, launches, and major event experiences, as well as ongoing work across social, web, and sales enablement. 
• Build practical voice and messaging systems, including style guidance, messaging frameworks, and writing standards that teams can apply confidently in their day-to-day work.
• Encode Datadog's voice into AI-enabled writing workflows by designing prompts, custom skills, evaluation approaches, and guardrails that help teams create and improve on-brand drafts.
• Partner early with Brand, Creative, Product Marketing, Web, Corporate Communications, and other teams to establish messaging before execution and strengthen briefs, concepts, critiques, and production.
• Scale writing quality beyond your own output by coaching internal partners and enabling agencies and contractors to apply Datadog's voice consistently without creating a bottleneck.

Who You Are:

• You have 8+ years of writing experience and a portfolio demonstrating range across brand campaigns, voice or messaging systems, long-form storytelling, and concise creative copy.
• You have written for developer, technical, or enterprise audiences and can communicate complex technology clearly without losing the substance that matters to practitioners.
• You have built or substantially shaped voice guidelines, messaging frameworks, or writing standards that other people have successfully used.
• You are a hands-on creative leader who can establish direction, exercise strong editorial judgment, influence partners, and carry work through production.
• You build with AI, not just around it. You're technology curious, you stay on top of modern workflows, and you have experience turning your writing standards into tools an entire organization can scale with.
• You are comfortable working through ambiguity, collaborating across functions, sharing your craft generously, and helping an evolving brand and its teams become stronger communicators.
