As part of our digital transformation journey, we are seeking a Power BI Specialist who will act as the organization’s Power BI subject matter expert and help shape how Business Intelligence is implemented and governed across the company.
The role
As a Power BI Specialist, you will serve as the organization's trusted expert for Microsoft Power BI.
Beyond developing reports, you will influence how Business Intelligence is structured, governed, and adopted across departments. You will advise Product Owners, BI Managers, developers, business analysts, and stakeholders on best practices, reporting structure, information design, governance, and scalable technical solutions.
Your success will be measured through improvements in report consistency, usability, technical quality, governance, and user adoption.
Key responsibilities:
As a Power BI Specialist, you will:
- Serve as the subject matter expert for Microsoft Power BI across the organization.
- Assess and improve enterprise BI architecture, governance, deployment practices, security, and maintainability.
- Advise teams on report structure, navigation, KPI design, information hierarchy, accessibility, and data storytelling.
- Define and maintain Power BI development standards, reusable templates, visualization principles, and governance frameworks.
- Lead technical design reviews and provide recommendations on:
- Power BI Architecture
- DAX
- Power Query
- SQL
- Semantic Modeling
- Security & Deployment
- Performance Optimization
- Support or develop complex BI solutions where specialist expertise is required.
- Translate complex business questions into scalable reporting strategies.
- Validate usability, accuracy, accessibility, security, and business value before solution deployment.
- Identify recurring issues and initiate long-term improvements that reduce technical debt.
- Coach developers and promote best practices across teams.
- Evaluate new Microsoft data-platform capabilities and guide responsible adoption within the organization.
Skills & experience
To be successful in this role, you bring:
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, or a related discipline.
Experience
- Extensive experience in BI development, analytics, database development, or data modeling.
- Expert-level Power BI knowledge including:
- DAX
- Power Query
- Semantic Modeling
- Report Design
- Performance Optimization
- Deployment & Governance
- Strong SQL and relational database knowledge.
- Experience implementing governance, testing, documentation, and security frameworks.
- Experience coaching and reviewing technical work across teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing enterprise-scale Power BI environments.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Services, Data Warehousing, ETL/ELT, APIs, and Agile frameworks.
- Experience within engineering, manufacturing, shipbuilding, or multinational environments is an advantage.
