The Position
Job description
The China Solution Engineering Team Lead is accountable for the strategic direction, people leadership, engineering delivery, and operational performance of the China-specific digital and AI solution portfolio.
The role leads a consolidated, Shanghai-based engineering team and transforms Pharma China priorities into secure, scalable, and high-value technology capabilities.
You will connect China business needs with global RDT strategy while navigating a distinctive local technology ecosystem, regulatory environment, and geopolitical landscape.
This role requires a strong combination of engineering leadership, product thinking, business insight, and the ability to operate effectively across local and global organizations.
Your primary objective is to enable China Digital and AI capability delivery with speed and scale by leading multidisciplinary engineering and service teams that build and operate desirable, feasible, viable, secure, and sustainable solutions for Pharma China, while maintaining alignment with Roche standards and applicable China regulations.
What should you do
Strategy & Vision
Accountable for setting the direction of China Solution Engineering and ensuring that engineering priorities deliver measurable Pharma China outcomes and financial objectives. Translate the China business strategy and RDT priorities into an integrated technology roadmap across local solutions and relevant global products. Monitor China market, regulatory, geopolitical, and technology trends; proactively propose resilient solutions and embed fit-for-purpose AI capabilities. Define, track, and communicate KPIs that demonstrate delivery speed, solution value, reliability, compliance, and contribution to business strategy.
Customer-Centricity
Establish a clear and aspirational vision for the end-to-end experience of Pharma China users, customers, and delivery partners across digital touchpoints. Build a deep understanding of local workflows and the expectations of HCP and business stakeholders, including the role of WeChat and other China-specific channels. Use feedback, product data, and market signals to prioritize improvements, accelerate adoption, and continuously refine solutions.
Product Lifecycle & Portfolio Mgmt.
Own engineering delivery and operational performance across the China-specific solution portfolio, from technical discovery and design through build, launch, scaling, run, modernization, and retirement. Maintain application and capability transparency, manage technical debt and lifecycle risk, and shape rationalization and reuse decisions. Coordinate roadmap dependencies with Product Managers and Business Partners, and ensure China requirements and reusable innovations inform relevant global product strategies.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Orchestrate a broad ecosystem spanning Pharma China Business Partnering, global Product and Engineering teams, Marketing & Customer Engagement, Portfolio Management, Enterprise Architecture, Security, Privacy, Compliance, local cloud and SaaS providers, and strategic delivery partners. Act as a trusted bridge between China and global stakeholders, making local constraints and opportunities transparent, resolving cross-product dependencies, and influencing senior leaders toward timely, evidence-based decisions.
Team Leadership & Development
Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing, multidisciplinary China engineering team. Create clarity on roles, objectives, performance expectations, and decision rights; allocate talent fluidly across evolving portfolio priorities; and strengthen succession, technical depth, and knowledge continuity. Foster an inclusive culture of ownership, customer-centricity, engineering excellence, data-informed decision-making, and continuous learning, while enabling team members to contribute to relevant global product teams and communities.
Performance & Optimization
Own the long-term performance, resilience, security, and sustainability of the China solution landscape. Connect engineering outcomes to business impact and guide optimization across availability, delivery lead time, quality, cost, adoption, risk, and user satisfaction. Establish transparent operational reviews, address systemic issues, and ensure business continuity across local and cross-border dependencies.
Financial & Resource Mgmt.
Develop multi-year workforce, run-cost, and investment plans in partnership with China Portfolio Management, Business Partners, Operations, and Product Managers. Jointly govern the China engineering budget envelope and allocate people and funding across run, enhancement, carry-over, and new-capability priorities to maximize portfolio value. Provide transparent reporting from both geography-centric and global product-centric views, and actively manage vendor capacity, financial risk, and delivery trade-offs.
Qualifications
Education / Experience
10+ years of experience in software engineering, solution delivery, technology product management, or a similar role, with a proven track record of launching, scaling, and operating enterprise digital products
2+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or regulated healthcare technology industry; experience in China healthcare or commercial technology is strongly preferred

Familiarity with China digital ecosystems such as WeChat, local cloud platforms, and the local AI/ML landscape is required; experience designing hybrid global/local architectures is strongly preferred.
Leadership skills (where applicable)
Ability to translate high-level business and scientific goals into an integrated engineering strategy, portfolio roadmap, and clear execution priorities.
Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to align China and global executives, Business Partners, Product Managers, architects, engineers, compliance stakeholders, and external partners toward a common outcome.
