Position Title: SET PointersWay for Success Peer Mentor

Department: The Office of Student Experience and Transformation (SET), University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP)

Position Type: Part-Time (Academic year, 10-15 hours per week)

Reports To: SET Office Manager

Number of Positions: 4

SET Mission:

The Office of Student Experience and Transformation (SET) aims to provide support to pre-college and college students who need help with their transition to the UWSP campus community. SET serves as a welcoming campus resource that provides academically and culturally integrated transformative experiences. SET empowers student development, connects first-generation students, and celebrates all students’ lived experiences and campus communities.

 

Compensation: $1,000 for early move in week,  $14 per hour school year

Hours: 10-15 hours per week

       PointersWay Peer Mentor Responsibilities:

  • Interact with approximately 60-70 first-year students during the week before the Fall 2026 semester.

  • Mentor approximately 10 - 20 incoming students individually.

  • Plan and attend regularly scheduled recreational activities and trips.

  • Gather necessary equipment and supplies.

  • Escort students to activities.

  • Facilitate and lead group discussions.

  • Observe required procedures and enforce program and University rules.

  • Respond to medical emergencies and manage unexpected occurrences.

  • Demonstrate responsible leadership to ensure program goals are met.

  • Track and complete required reports.

  • Attend all meetings and mandatory training/orientation before the program begins.

PointersWay for Success Schedule:

  • Mandatory Training: May (Spring 2026) - In Person

  • Mandatory Training: July (Summer 2026) - In Person OR Via Zoom

  • Early Move-in Week: 08/23/2026 - 08/28/2026 (Fall 2026)

  • During 2026-2027 Academic Year: 10-15 Hours / Week; *Min. 1 Hour / Week In-Person @ PointersWay for Success location 

Qualifications:

  • Must be a current undergraduate student, at least half-time, at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Main Campus.

  • Be in good academic standing.

  • Must be Sophomore standing or higher.

  • Strong written, interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Familiar with UWSP Campus (i.e., Academic resources, residential life, campus activities)

  • Ability to address sensitive concerns of students in a professional, tactful, and confidential manner

  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and maintain professionalism.

  • Ability to foster an open, friendly, and engaging environment that supports and respects the diverse needs of students

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience as a mentor, tutor, or related leadership position.

  • Experience facilitating group discussions or presentations.

  • Experience planning events

  • Experience with social media to aid in promoting the department and its events
