West Virginia University School of Medicine and the Department of Anesthesiology seek a Liver Transplant Anesthesiologist (ranks available: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor). The successful candidate will be expected to practice in Morgantown, WV.

Duties: The successful candidate will practice in the areas of specialty/training. In addition to providing excellent patient care, the successful candidate will also be actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.

Qualifications: Candidate must have an MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent and be eligible for state medical license. Successful candidate must have completed an anesthesiology residency program with Demonstrated interest and/or experience in liver transplantation, hepatobiliary surgery, and complex perioperative care. Fellowship training in Transplant Anesthesiology, Critical Care, or another relevant subspecialty will be highly regarded. Successful candidates must be board certified / eligible in Anesthesiology. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.

Since 2016, WVU Health has undergone explosive growth and the Department of Anesthesiology has been a critical contributor. Housed in J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, the Department provides anesthesia care for more 40,000 procedures per year. 

The Department of Anesthesiology is committed to excellence and innovation in education. The Department supports nine ACGME-accredited residency positions every year for a total of 36 residents. We have two fellows in ACGME-accredited cardiothoracic anesthesia, one fellow in ACGME-accredited regional anesthesia and acute pain, and two fellows in ACGME-accredited Pain Medicine fellowship. We extensively use a highly-recognized, anesthesiologist-developed simulation center for education in all levels of training. 

The WVU Medicine Transplant Alliance is West Virginia’s first and only multi-organ transplant center. WVU Transplant Alliance completed its first heart transplant in 2019 and kidney transplant in 2020. Since then, our team has helped many patients from West Virginia and surrounding regions to navigate complex medical challenges, explore transplant candidacy, and make informed decisions regarding their health.  

Our multidisciplinary teams work together with the mission of providing exceptional, patient-centered organ transplant care in West Virginia. We work tirelessly to reach those suffering from chronic or end-stage heart or kidney disease, offering trusted, state-of-the-art care in an area with some of the highest rates of both heart and kidney disease in the nation. We do this by:

• Demonstrating excellent outcomes in transplant success  

• Empowering staff and clinicians to provide a tailored, comprehensive experience for each patient
