Position Summary

The Audiologist is responsible for providing comprehensive diagnostic and rehabilitative services for all areas of auditory and related disorders. This is a professional level position that provides services in a medical center/speech and hearing center setting to children and young adults age 0-18 years who represent a diverse linguistic, ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic group. The Audiologist serves a large population of patients with multiple disabilities. Work situations require clinical skills, data analysis, problem solving, and decision-making. Internal contacts include pediatric patient care staff, physicians, and support staff. External contacts include physicians, patients, families, school staff, and outside organizations.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifies, assesses, diagnoses, manages, and interprets test results related to disorders of human hearing in children birth-18 years of age

  • Performs otoscopic examinations in order to evaluate ear canal and TM status, make ear impressions, fit hearing protection or prosthetic devices, and monitor the continuous use of hearing aids

  • Conducts and interprets behavioral, electroacoustic, and electrophysiologic methods used to assess hearing, in children and young adults

  • Provides hearing care by selecting, evaluating, fitting, facilitating adjustment to, and dispensing prosthetic devices for hearing loss, to include hearing aids, sensory aids, and hearing assistive devices

  • Provides audiological rehabilitation including communication management, language development, auditory skill development, and counseling for psychosocial adjustment to hearing loss for persons with hearing loss and their families/caregivers

  • Consults with educators as members of interdisciplinary teams about communication management, educational implications of hearing loss, educational programming, classroom acoustics, and large-area amplification systems for children with hearing loss

  • Reviews and keeps abreast of basic and applied audiologic research to increase the knowledge base, develop new methods and programs, and determine the efficacy of assessment and treatment paradigms

  • Measures functional outcomes, consumer satisfaction, effectiveness, efficiency, and cost benefit of practices and programs to maintain and improve the quality of audiological services

  • Consults with individuals, public and private agencies, and governmental bodies, or as an expert witness regarding legal interpretations of audiology findings and effects of hearing loss

  • Screens speech-language and other developmental areas affecting communication function for the purpose of an audiologic evaluation and/or initial identification of individuals with other disorders in need of referral

  • Serves as a case manager and liaison for the consumer, family, and agencies in order to monitor audiologic status and management and to make recommendations about education and vocational programming

  • Participates in the development and maintenance of professional and technical standards

  • Prepares written reports of findings and correspondence to referral sources and other professionals involved in the hearing health of the child

  • Provides inservice instruction to ancillary staff, other professionals, or other interested groups in the community

  • Monitors the efficiency/effectiveness of departmental policies and procedures and makes recommendations to the Coordinator regarding potential changes

  • Assists the Manager and/or Clinical Coordinator in the preparation of capital expenditure projections and budget preparation

  • Provides the Manager and/or Clinical Coordinator with pertinent data for the preparation of departmental statistical reports

  • Demonstrates actions consistent with a high quality of patient care, customer satisfaction, fiscal responsibility, and effective productivity

  • Contributes to the success of the organization by meeting organizational competency expectations and core values, continuously learning, and by performing other duties as needed or assigned       

Requirements:

  • Master's degrees required

  • Certified Audiologist License - Washington Board of Hearing and Speech

  • Successful completion of a master’s or doctorate degree program that includes clinic practicum experience

  • ASHA - Audiology - American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)

  • Current BLS Certification

Pay and Benefit Expectations

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $45.62 - $65.66 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant’s years of experience align.
