Location: 582 E 36th Avenue Suite 203 Anchorage, AK 99503

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

Pay Range: $19–$25/hr

About the Role

The Patient Care Specialist II provides advanced administrative and patient access support to ensure smooth daily operations in a busy medical office. This role independently manages patient registration, insurance verification, referrals, and basic billing/documentation issues while delivering exceptional service to patients, families, and staff.

You’ll work closely with providers, clinical teams, and administrative leadership to maintain accurate records, support efficient scheduling, and uphold compliance standards. This position requires strong attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to stay composed in a fast‑paced front‑office environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Register patients and ensure demographic, insurance, consent, and contact information is accurate in the EHR
• Collect and process copayments following standard cash‑handling procedures
• Verify insurance eligibility, obtain authorizations, and document verification results
• Explain check‑in processes, insurance requirements, and payment expectations clearly
• Answer and route phone calls; schedule and reschedule appointments; maintain daily provider schedules
• Process urgent specialist referrals, appointment ticklers, and medical record release requests
• Perform clerical tasks including filing, faxing, scanning, and uploading documents into the EHR
• Review patient accounts for outstanding balances or documentation errors; partner with billing to resolve issues
• Maintain full HIPAA and privacy compliance; identify and report potential privacy or billing concerns
• Prepare, route, and manage medical documentation to ensure accuracy and confidentiality
• Provide professional, courteous customer service during high‑volume or challenging situations
• Coordinate scheduling across multiple providers and departments to support efficient patient flow
• Audit charts, registration data, and referral documentation for compliance and accuracy
• Participate in mandatory training related to privacy, compliance, workflow changes, and patient experience
• Support the Practice Manager and care team with administrative tasks
• Assist with departmental audits, workflow redesign, and implementation of new systems or technologies
• Prepare and distribute operational reports related to scheduling efficiency and registration accuracy
• Demonstrate excellent guest service to patients and internal team members
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 2+ years of front‑office or patient access experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of insurance verification, referrals, and scheduling workflows
• Experience with Athena or similar EHR systems
• Excellent communication, customer service, and problem‑solving skills
• Ability to multitask and maintain accuracy in a fast‑paced environment
• Strong understanding of HIPAA, privacy standards, and documentation requirements

Compensation Range:

$19.80

to

$29.70

 

The anticipated base salary range represents the Company's good-faith estimate of the compensation it reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, skills, qualifications, geographic location, internal equity, and business needs.
