Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Load/unload X-Ray film and image plate cartridges used in nuclear physics experiments.
• Process photographic film and image plate.
• Maintain film processing equipment and chemistry.
• Support the operation of various equipment and diagnostics related to laser physics experiments
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and optical issues 
• Perform regular preventative maintenance
• Maintain complex vacuum systems
• Troubleshoot equipment issues.
• Qualify as a NYS Radiation Worker
• Maintain radiological containment areas
• Create and update system documentation and procedures.
• Morning and Evening shift work is required.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Associate's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics and 1 year of relevant experience in a technical position required
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn additional software operation required
• Ability to work in a cleanroom environment required.
• Ability to lift to 50 lbs. and navigate stairs/ladder required
• Excellent verbal and written communication required
• Strong interpersonal skills working in a team-based environment required
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn additional software required
• Ability to obtain a security clearance required
• Experience with electrical, controls, and vacuum systems preferred
• Experience handing precision optical components preferred
• Proficiency reading and interpreting mechanical and electrical schematics preferred
• Technical writing experience preferred
• Strong mechanical aptitude preferred
• Darkroom/film development experience preferred. 
• Experience with automated photographic film processors and/or image plate scanners preferred
• Experience with chemistry operations preferred.
• Experience with radiological materials preferred.
