Job Description

Location: Purcell – 919 N 9th Avenue

Salary: The hourly rate is up to

Level I: $32.69, based on education and experience

Level II: $34.32, based on education and experience

Level III: $37.01, based on education and experience

Full Time /Part Time: Part time

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday

Primary Hours: up to 19 hours per week.

Position Description:

The Occupational Therapist I, II, III – Temporary is responsible for examining and treating children with physical impairments and/or difficulties through the use of physical modalities, self-care and neurological needs. The goal is to assist the caregiver and child improve mobility and function to increase independent movement and other skills necessary for functioning in daily routines.

This position is responsible for providing diagnostic and therapeutic services in the areas of Occupational Therapy.  Services are provided in the child’s natural environment settings in which children typically spend time, for example, home or childcare.  Services include screenings, evaluations, intervention, and parent education.

Position Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

The functions within this family job will vary by level; responsibility but may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provides early intervention services in the child and family’s natural environment (home, childcare, park etc.)
  • Makes recommendations concerning standardized treatments/intervention based on developmental indications.
  • Completes child assessments concerning developmental, educational, and social skills/abilities. 
  • Participates in family interview.
  • Conducts intakes, including client interviews, and conducts assessments to make appropriate recommendations for services.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of the Individualized Family Service Plan according to state and federal guidelines.
  • Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary team to monitor the effectiveness of child health and development services.
  • Develops a treatment plan to address areas of need including routine-based activities, neuro-motor and sensory-motor function/activities and child/family coaching and education sessions.
  • Participates in the assessment, design and fabrication of adaptive equipment and orthotic devices.
  • Evaluates the child’s response to treatment/intervention and makes recommendations on changes in treatment as required.
  • Maintains confidential records of services including progress notes and evaluation reports in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Participates as a mentor to Occupational Therapy Interns during their fieldwork experience.
  • Being present in the office is an essential function of this job
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Works effectively in team environment, participating and assisting their peers.

Minimum Qualifications:

The Occupational Therapist job family consists of four levels which are distinguished by the level of complexity of specific job assignments, the extent of responsibility assigned for specific tasks, the level of expertise required for completion of the assigned work.

Level I:

This is the basic level where incumbents perform beginning level professional work as an occupational therapist and develop their technical skills in screening, evaluation, assessment, program planning, parent education and intervention while assisting in or performing various treatments.

Requirements at this level consist of a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy and a current Oklahoma license as an Occupational Therapist issued by the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision.

Level I ONLY:  A letter of eligibility issued by the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision will be accepted as long as the letter of eligibility remains valid. However, a valid permanent license as an Occupational Therapist must be obtained prior to the expiration of the probationary period.)

Level II:

Occupational Therapist II is the career level where incumbents perform all duties of an occupational therapist at the full performance level.  The incumbent will assume a lead role in evaluation, assessment, program planning and intervention.

Requirements at this level consist of a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy and a current Oklahoma license as an Occupational Therapist issued by the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision. Plus, one year of professional experience as a licensed Occupational Therapist; or an advanced level Master’s degree or Doctorate in pediatric rehabilitative services, pediatric occupational therapy, special education, or a closely related field may be substituted for the required experience.

Level III:

Occupational Therapist III is the specialist level, where incumbents are assigned responsibilities involving advanced level duties in occupational therapy.  Incumbents at this level may assume a lead role in evaluation, assessment, program planning, intervention, and supervise occupational therapy students during fieldwork experience.  May provide in-service training in areas of recognized expertise at the local, regional and state level. 

Requirements at this level consist of a Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy and a current Oklahoma license as an Occupational Therapist issued by the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision. Plus, three years of professional experience as a licensed Occupational Therapist; or an advanced level Master’s degree or Doctorate in pediatric rehabilitative services, pediatric occupational therapy, special education, or a closely related field may be substituted for only 2 years of the required experience.

Level I:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of the principles, practices, and ethics of professional occupational therapy; of therapeutic techniques and their application; and of the materials used in occupational therapy programs.  Ability is required to use therapeutic equipment and materials; to evaluate various skills and abilities; to administer prescribed treatments or conduct planned activities; to establish effective working relationships with others; and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Level II:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of the principles, practices, and ethics of professional occupational therapy; of therapeutic techniques and their application; and of the materials used in occupational therapy programs.  Ability is required to use therapeutic equipment and materials; to evaluate various skills and abilities; to administer prescribed treatments or conduct planned activities; to establish effective working relationships with others; and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to exercise initiative and independent judgment; and to mentor occupational therapy student interns during field work experience.

Level III:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of the principles, practices, and ethics of professional occupational therapy; of therapeutic techniques and their application; and of the materials used in occupational therapy programs.  Ability is required to use therapeutic equipment and materials; to evaluate various skills and abilities; to administer prescribed treatments or conduct planned activities; to establish effective working relationships with others; and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to exercise initiative and independent judgment; and to supervise occupational therapy student interns during field work experience.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Work is typically performed in the child’s natural environment (home or childcare setting) or in an office environment with climate-controlled settings and exposure to moderate noise levels. Telework and the provision of services remotely may also be required.  While performing the duties of the job, employee is required to talk, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms and may lift up to 35 pounds.

Travel Requirements

Applicants must be willing to perform all job-related travel associated with any of these positions.  Occasional in-state overnight and weekend travel may be required.
