Position Summary

The Outdoor Attendant welcomes guests to the Nordic trails and ensures that the gate area and exterior lodge area are in a safe condition for skier and snowshoer passage. The Nordic Outdoor Attendant is responsible for trail access operations, safety, ticketing issues, crowd control, and guest service at the Nordic Ticket Gate.  They will review the daily grooming report and event details and accurately communicate this information to guests. Being an Outdoor Attendant is an outside job in all types of harsh winter weather that may involve long periods of standing and always requires being in full uniform while working. The job will require early morning starts and frequent snow shoveling. 

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities

• Set up, maintenance, and tear down of crowd control gates and signs at the Nordic trail access area. 

• Maintain clear and safe building entry/ exit areas.  

• Provide constant guest service while checking for valid trail passes. 

• Effectively communicate while organizing a large crowd. 

• Assist with ticket/pass issues and report fraud. 

• Assist in snow and ice removal wherever and whenever necessary. 

• Demonstrate success in safety awareness and maintain a safe work environment.

• Split kindling and haul wood. 

Secondary Function 

• Assist the indoor (lodge) staff, especially in the afternoons. This will include selling tickets, selling retail, renting equipment to guests, ski waxing, equipment repair, and other duties as needed. 

• Assist in training new attendants and any employees who cover meal/rest breaks. 

• Assist with special events as directed by the manager, which may include diverse tasks in outdoor and indoor environments.

Along with our wilderness environment, our people are our product. The Nordic Outdoor attendant is a front-line representative of Mt. Bachelor, and as such, they are held accountable to all policies and procedures presented in training seminars, safety huddles, the employee handbook, and operations manual.  The Outdoor Attendant provides exceptional customer service, directions, and information that can be critical to a guest's success and enjoyment of their experience. The Outdoor Attendant maintains physical access to the lodge and trails and pays constant attention to conditions and safety concerns.

Nordic Staff of all positions, Public Safety, Ski Patrol, IT, Lodge Services, & Guests. 

Specific Job Skills

• Technical: Nordic ski proficiency preferred. Willingness to learn the resort’s POS program. 

• Physical Capabilities: Able to remain standing outside in all weather conditions. Frequent shoveling, lifting, pulling, pushing, and bending. Additionally, every position at Mt. Bachelor requires the ability to shovel snow and walk on steep and uneven surfaces.

Current Hiring Rate: $16.50/hr
