Fairview Hospital’s 6 North/South Med/Surg and Telemetry Units provide comprehensive care and caring services for adults, 18 years of age or older, who have medical and surgical diagnoses and offer a warm, comforting healing environment. As a Nightingale RN, you will leverage your experience and harness the skills of an experienced RN HOPS who recently retired but has a desire to transfer knowledge to newer nurses within the organization. You will provide regular professional nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic services and to hospitalized patients in a variety of healthcare settings.

A caregiver in this position works PRN (as needed) between 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m., with weekend requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Assess patient; complete nursing assessment, document findings in patient records, and notify physician of abnormal findings.

• Establish a care plan in collaboration with the patient, family, and health care team.

• Coordinate ongoing care; identify discharge needs and facilitate discharge planning as appropriate.

• Provide telephone triage and participate in call rotations per department needs.

• Perform nursing procedures and treatments as directed by physician or LIP in the treatment and management of patient care.

• Evaluate, initiate, and maintain standards of care consistent with CCHS policies and procedures.

• Assist with specialized patient care equipment as required by the clinical department and medical specialty assigned.

• Administer medications and treatments as ordered by a physician or LIP.

• Direct, coordinate, and participate in the evaluation and supervision of nursing care provided to patients.

• Establish patient care priorities and delegate nursing activities according to patient needs and staff qualifications and capabilities.

• Serve as charge nurse when assigned to ensure efficient operations and continuity of care.

• Participate in education, research, and performance improvement activities; provide health education to patients and families.

• Develop, evaluate, adapt, and document education to meet learning needs and abilities of patients and families.

• Assist in the preparation of department-specific education for patients and colleagues; cover other nursing roles in the department.

• Maintain core competency in nursing, including CPR and skills labs.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing

• Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

• Current state licensure as Registered Nurse (RN)

• Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

• In areas performing moderate sedation procedures must have current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) Certification

• Three years of experience in an RN HOPS position at the Cleveland Clinic immediately prior to retirement

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Bachelors of science in nursing (BSN)

• In areas operating with Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC Lines), Certified Registered Nurse Infusion (CRNI) or Vascular Access Board Certified (VA-BC) certification

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

• Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

• Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.

• Requires some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids.

• Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

• Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
