Freese and Nichols is seeking National Technical Leader – Integrated Planning in any Freese and Nichols location. As National Technical Leader, you will set the technical direction of the three practices that individually underpin our Integrated Planning capabilities (Urban Planning + Design, Water/Wastewater Master Planning, and Water Resources Planning) and strengthen consistency and quality by working with a team to build the standards, tools, and training that help teams deliver great work across the firm.  A critical part of this role is also leadership of the growth our Integrated Planning capabilities when our local clients need to engage all three capabilities equally to deliver on their economic development and quality of life objectives for their residents. 

What You’ll Do 

• Partner with the Urban Planning + Design, Water/Wastewater Planning, and Water Resource Planning Practice Leaders to align market needs with internal capabilities, strengths, and gaps 

• Set and communicate technical direction that supports consistent delivery across teams and offices 

• Develop, maintain, and implement practice standards, processes, and tools to improve quality and consistency 

• Coordinate quality leadership across the practice, including senior advisors, quality control reviewers, and group technical leaders 

• Build and drive technical training and development pathways from onboarding through advanced practice expertise 

• Sponsor and advance innovation and R&D efforts that improve how work is delivered 

• Collaborate on applied technology enablement (e.g., virtual design and construction, GIS/geospatial data, AI and emerging tools) to support delivery needs 

• Support technical elements of strategic pursuits, including technical approaches, resourcing, and proposal reviews 

• Lead the firm’s growth of Integrated Planning capabilities to deliver customized solutions for our local clients (cities and counties). 

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field 

• 15+ years of experience with recognized ability to lead others, deliver complex projects, and develop technical approaches for proposals 

• Outstanding communication and organizational skills 

• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently to achieve results 

• Recognized technical expert in a specific service or discipline within Transportation 

Preferred 

• Master’s degree or equivalent experience 

• Experience developing and implementing practice-wide standards, processes, and tools 

• Experience building technical training programs and supporting long-term capability development 

• Experience serving as a senior advisor and/or quality control reviewer on complex work 

• Experience presenting at conferences and engaging with technical committees and industry groups
