At Andromeda, we're building the social intelligence layer for humanoid robots - technology that allows robots to understand people, build relationships and become a meaningful part of everyday life.

Our first robot, Abi, is already doing this in aged care and healthcare, where she brings conversation, companionship and engagement to people every day.

Now we're scaling from early deployments into a platform that can operate across thousands of real-world environments. We're looking for individuals who want to tackle hard problems across robotics and AI, and help define what it means for robots to live and interact alongside people. 

About the role

Andromeda is looking for a hands-on Mechatronics Technician to help keep deployed robots operating reliably, support hardware development with San Francisco design partners, and deliver focused special projects across the robotics organization.

This role is ideal for an individual who enjoys working across mechanical, electrical, and software boundaries; diagnosing problems in the field; and turning ambiguous hardware challenges into practical, well-documented solutions. You will work directly with robots, partners, and internal engineering teams, often in environments where speed, judgment, and attention to detail matter.

What you’ll do

Support deployed robots across the United States

• Repair, upgrade, maintain, and support deployed Andromeda robots in the US.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, electromechanical, and system-level issues using structured troubleshooting and hands-on testing.
• Plan and execute field repairs, hardware swaps, upgrades, and preventative-maintenance activities.
• Execute test plans, follow service procedures, and document field findings to help refine troubleshooting guides. 
• Coordinate with internal engineering, operations, and support teams to resolve incidents and restore robot availability.
• Serve as goalkeeper and on-call for robotics hardware issues
• Capture failure modes, root causes, repair history, and recommended product improvements in a clear and actionable format.
• Support safe handling, transport, installation, commissioning, and decommissioning of robotic hardware.

Provide on-the-ground support to San Francisco design partners

• Serve as a hands-on technical support presence for Andromeda’s SF design partners.
• Support prototype builds, integration activities, testing, debugging, and iteration in partner environments.
• Assist engineering teams by assembling prototypes and providing physical feedback on initial builds. 
• Identify integration risks and communicate issues, trade-offs, and recommended next steps clearly.
• Coordinate access to tools, parts, fixtures, test equipment, and other resources needed to keep partner work moving.
• Maintain accurate records of build configurations, test results, changes, and open issues.

Contribute to special projects

• Support special projects that improve robot reliability, serviceability, manufacturability, or field readiness. 
• Track tasks, report on dependencies, and communicate physical build/repair progress to internal teams. 
• Produce concise technical documentation and handoff materials so successful solutions can be repeated and supported at scale.

Requirements

What we’re looking for

• Associate degree in Mechatronics/Electronics, trade certification, or equivalent practical hands-on experience (Bachelor's in Engineering welcomed, but not required).
• 3+ years of experience working with physical products, robotics, automation, electromechanical systems, or related hardware.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical and electrical systems.
• Strong practical skills with mechanical assembly, wiring, sensors, actuators, motors, connectors, fasteners, and test equipment.
• Experience reading mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Ability to use common engineering and workshop tools safely and effectively.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document problems and explain technical findings to varied audiences.
• A self-directed, methodical, and service-oriented approach to solving problems in the field.
• Willingness and ability to travel regularly within the United States and work on-site with partners and deployed systems.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience supporting robots or other complex hardware in production or customer environments.
• Basic familiarity with CAD viewing tools, 3D printing, and basic software diagnostics. 
• Familiarity with basic low-voltage electrical systems, running software diagnostic scripts, and basic hardware testing. 
• Experience with root-cause analysis, failure reporting, preventative maintenance, or service documentation.
• Experience working with contract manufacturers, suppliers, installation teams, or external design partners.
• Comfort working in a fast-moving environment where priorities can change as new field information emerges.

Benefits

The expected base salary range for this role is $70,000 - $100,00 USD. Actual compensation will be determined by a variety of factors, including the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
