Shape Production Excellence as a Workshop Machinist

Are you passionate about precision manufacturing and machine operations? Join a hands-on role where your work directly impacts safety, quality, efficiency, and reliable production performance. You will operate and maintain workshop machinery, manufacture and repair components to established standards, and help ensure products are delivered according to production schedules, quality requirements, and operational targets. This is an opportunity to apply your technical expertise, contribute to continuous operational excellence, and support a safe and productive workshop environment.

Your responsibilities

  • Operate machines and production equipment safely and according to established procedures and standards.
  • Manufacture and repair components in line with production specifications, schedules, quality standards, and operational targets.
  • Load materials into production machines efficiently to support smooth workflow and productivity.
  • Remove, sort, and pack raw materials and finished products accurately and safely.
  • Maintain a safe working environment by collecting and disposing of waste according to recycling and waste-management procedures.
  • Clean machinery, equipment, and work areas to meet health, safety, and operational requirements.
  • Perform lathe operations, roll grinding activities, and basic mechanical maintenance tasks.
  • Monitor machine condition and maintain machinery and process equipment in reliable working order.
  • Ensure built-in quality at every stage of the manufacturing process and perform all work to high quality standards.
  • Follow Quality, Health, Safety, Environmental, and company management system requirements while supporting the Workshop Supervisor and Manager with assigned tasks.

Expectations from you

  • Associate Degree (Diploma) in a Technical or Engineering field with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's Degree in a Technical or Engineering field.
  • Broad knowledge of workshop operations, machinery, production processes, and maintenance practices.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
  • Basic knowledge of machine maintenance.
  • Familiarity with measurement devices and inspection tools.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office; knowledge of CAD/CAM software is an advantage.
  • Ability to communicate in English.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to learn.
  • Open-minded approach with a collaborative team-player mindset and commitment to excellence.
  • Willingness to work in shifts.

To succeed in this role

Success in this role requires a strong commitment to safety, quality, and operational efficiency in every task you perform. You bring practical experience operating workshop machinery, an understanding of technical drawings and measurement equipment, and the ability to maintain machinery in reliable working condition. You are comfortable working under limited supervision, solving non-routine challenges through analysis, and supporting and guiding less experienced colleagues while consistently delivering work to established standards.

We also expect you to align with Valmet’s Leadership Principles—practical behaviors that guide how we lead, collaborate, and succeed together:

  • Take accountability – Act with ownership, set clear expectations, and follow through
  • Lead with courage – Champion change, try bold ideas, and learn quickly
  • Build on trust – Listen to understand, be open, and create psychological safety
  • Collaborate for growth – Work across boundaries, value diverse perspectives, and focus on customer value

We offer

You will join a workshop environment focused on safe, high-quality, and efficient manufacturing operations. The team is responsible for machine operation, component manufacturing and repair, equipment maintenance, product quality, and adherence to health, safety, environmental, and operational standards. Working closely with the Workshop Supervisor and fellow team members, you will contribute to reliable production performance while helping maintain workshop equipment and processes in optimal condition. The role offers opportunities to expand your technical capabilities across machining, roll grinding, mechanical maintenance, and production operations. You will also have the opportunity to share your knowledge by supporting and assisting less experienced colleagues.

Valmet offers an inspiring and challenging position with opportunities for professional growth and development. We value our employees and provide modern tools, learning opportunities, and a collaborative work environment where individuals can contribute and succeed together.
